Books are more fun than mirrors

I finally understand the question "if you were stranded on a desert island what book would you want to have?"

For years I've always thought it was just a joke
Because I'd always answer with "how to build a boat"

But I finally get it
Why people started asking it
It's not about what kind of books are we interested in
It's not about what will entertain us
It's not about what we can read again and again and again
It's not even about how we would survive

It's a simple question which can be answered with a simple answer
but....
What it means is so much more

Because they are not asking about what book we would like
They were asking...
how we would live
And how we would choose to see the world

I finally understand
because a single book
can define life
a single book...
can define how you see everything around you
And
that single book you chose
defines how you live

Think about it
And look around
The countless of textbooks we had to go through during school
The never ending fictions that surrounds us
The biographies and autobiographies of thousands of people that had come and gone
The Bible

Aren't this things the things that taught us about life
and even though you do not read
it is books that gives definition to everything you see now
Because
what are books, but the physical manifestation of the human soul

So I'll ask you
if you were stranded on a desert island what book would you want to have?
