I close my eyes, imagining myself being at some other place. Maybe some other universe even, that would be even better. It doesn't matter in the end as long as my presence isn't connected with this place. So many places I could be at right now, yet my body is chained to this desk due to the fact of student's life being very dry with money. Every day I try to convince myself how every moment spent here is a valuable lesson I might need later in life. But, as days go by it's becoming slightly difficult to believe myself. I must remind myself of the wonderful money that's going to be placed into my bank account by the end of the month, just to get by without losing my mind.
"Adelaide, would you please stop daydreaming and get to work?" my annoying boss yells, making me roll my eyes. I get up from my seat and make my way towards the reception desk, passing my boss, while my eyes are glued to the ground beneath me.
"It's Ella," I mutter under my breath as I passed him. Yes, my name is Adelaide, but the thing is, I'm not particularly fond of my name. It sounds unusual and old, plus I think no one likes it except of my parents. And they're quite unusual. I mean, who'd name their child Adelaide Katherine Clark. It's incredibly long and it's a name you'd give to your kid only if your very wealthy, royal possibly even. You can tell my parents aren't wealthy since I'm working to help them pay my education. Sure, my mother likes expensive things and my father is ready to do and buy her anything just to see her smile, which is very adorable, yes, but saving some money couldn't be so bad.
I sit on the chair behind the reception desk and wait. Wait, wait, wait. That's basically what I do every other day here at this lovely hotel no one has ever heard of. That little fact is probably the reason why there's so little guests. The hotel is not a big one, but quite old and small, with just three floors and the rooms that are nice, not very pretty though, but people don't seem to mind that because it isn't very expensive. At least not when compared to other hotels in London. Plus, I feel like it's worth mentioning; the food is great. If you ask me, I don't want to work here, even though it's not like I'm actually doing something, because I'm mostly just staring at the ceiling, which is for some reason worse to me than getting swamped with work.
But, I have to do this. I have to learn how to work in a hotel because a big dream of mine is having my own hotel. And I will have it one day. I just hope it won't be like this desert here. Okay, people come here sometimes and then we treat them like kings because God knows when will someone else arrive, but that happens like once in three months, more often at summer or winter time when tourists come. The restaurant is very visited, but that's just not it. And, by the way, how can I possibly learn how to work in a hotel when I barely work here. I only got a job because I had a good connection, I know three languages and I accepted the small salary. Which people who'd worked here didn't so that could have been the real reason behind my employment.
