I apologize for being dead for so long. School has taken a heavy toll on me, that much I can tell you.

“Bobby, walk in front of me.” Hacker suddenly ordered, making the younger one raise an eyebrow.

“Uh...” He looked weirded out but by the other’s facial expression, he understood that it was probably best not to question it. “Sure?” He walked a bit faster, coming into Hacker’s eye view.

When Hacker woke up that morning, the first thing he smelled was the scent of freshly made pancakes. Randy’s cheerful voice echoed through the two story-house they were hiding in as he called for him to join them at the breakfast table, the birthday boy vaguely hearing his younger housemate yelling to hurry up so they could eat already.

To spite him, he would have been tempted to be agonizingly slow to come down, but the fact that those pancakes smelled divine prevented him from indulging himself in the pleasure of seeing Bobby’s raging face.

He swung his legs to the side of his bed, yawning as he stretched his arms. He turned to the alarm on his left. It read 8 a.m.

Way earlier than he was used to.

He got up from his bed a few seconds later before heading to the bathroom. By the time he came down, he could already see Bobby being held up by his hood by the oldest of the three, pouting.

Upon seeing him, Randy waved at him, grinning from ear to ear. “Good morning son!” He cheerfully said, putting the resident gremlin down. “Happy birthday!”

Bobby reluctantly echoed the wish, his eyes fixated on the steaming plate behind them. Hacker laughed, smiling. “Good morning, Randy, and thanks.”

He sat down at the table as Randy began some small talk. Bobby’s priorities were clearly elsewhere as he immediately snatched a pastry the second, he sat down on his chair.

“Leave some for us.” He warned him, Bobby only sticking his tongue out to him.

“Don’t worry, he will. You shouldn’t stick your tongue out son, plus it’s his birthday today, can’t you be a little nicer to your brother?” Bobby only rolled his eyes in response, keeping on munching on his pancake.

Randy sighed, passing him the bottle of syrup.

He turned back to Hacker, an apologetic smile on his face. “By the way son, I’m afraid I won’t be here for most of the days. I tried to ask for a day off but that was not possible today.”

Hacker waved his worry away with the back of his hand. “Don’t worry, I take no offense to it. Besides, just the fact that you remembered my birthday is enough to me.”

“Still.” Randy protested, handing him some money. Hacker stared quizzically at the change, tilting his head to the side in confusion as he stared at Randy. “It is for your present. I sew you a sweater, but I didn’t know if you were going to like it so buy yourself something nice today, okay?”

Hacker’s eyes sparkled. “Oh, Randy you didn’t have to!” He smiled. “I told you guys you didn’t have to give me anything today.”

Bobby scoffed, temporarily interrupting his massacre of the pancakes. “Don’t be ridiculous, it’s your birthday.”
