"And you stay here?" Caesar said carrying his small duffle and suitcase into Dolores's house.
"I mean this is your home?" He asked surprised at the big old southern home as he glanced around.
"Yup, my daddy's daddy built it." She said proudly.
"This is your home too." She said to him and he looked at her.
"It's okay." She reassured him as if he was a child as she grabbed his hand and pulled him in.
"I uhm-" He started.
He had no intention of staying there even though he could tell she was set on it.
There was nothing wrong with her home at all. It was on a farm, far from the city, and overall just big. Caesar had opted after all the press to go back to rehab. He wanted to be clean because only sober could he truly understand who he was.
"You goin to be here, help your uncle with the farm, and stop doin those drugs." She said firmly and he looked at her.
She knew how to get people to quit drugs, this wasn't her first rodeo. She figured it was just a different devil and now that Caesar knew who he was it was time to show him where he came from. To her, it made more sense.
"I mean it sounds nice but rehab has-" He started and she waved him off before tugging his arm and pulling him down the hall.
"You need Jesus not rehab." Dolores said and he couldn't help but chuckle.
"Your mother did the same thing." She said and he instantly stopped.
That was one of the rare occasions she had mentioned her before explain she was his mother's mother.
"What happened to her?" He asked curiously.
Dolores still hadn't told him.
What he did know was that she was his grandmother and after his mother 'disappeared' she urged his father to keep her around. Dolores had worked as a housekeeper for years but the moment she found out about Caesar she refused not to be a part of his life. She quit her job and got hired there.
It wasn't until he was a toddler that his father even realized who she was.
Dolores was forced then to promise to never say anything and it was only then is father allowed her to be around him.
It was just over the years Dolores was just so close to him and he loved her, not even his father could stop it.
Deep down inside she was always sure he didn't want to.
Caesar and Lily had received the love that they longed for from her and her alone. When she left their home was empty but even the staff felt the the coldness without her presence. Back then she was just trying to manage and Caesar had left home.
They both knew it was time and she had a feeling he had been up to something, she always knew him well like that.
"There's the bathroom." She opened the door to the right of her before she proceeded down the hall.
"This is my room." She pointed to the room on the left at the end.
"Your uncle Ray's." She pointed to the room across from the bathroom and the to the room at the end of the hall on the right.
"That'll be your room." She said and he looked at her.
"Go on now." She said tugging his arm.
Caesar didn't bother to argue with her.
