"So...you and blondie?" Danny asks with a small smile, trying to ignore the growing fear in his gut.

Camila shrugs, staring out the window. She hasn't talked to him much except for this morning when she woke him up to go get a DNA test, but that doesn't mean he stopped trying. He came all the way from Texas (it's truly not that far) for this shit. No way he's leaving without making her smile at least once.

She lets him ramble the entire car ride, pats his shoulder reassuringly when the doctor calls him by his government name, offers him apple juice from her purse when he begins to freak out while they're being called into the room for his blood drawing.

Other than that though, you'd honestly think she hates him with how much she glares and ignores him.

"We're friends. She's just here to help with the kids." She mumbles, only looking at him when she hears him slightly shuffle around in the leather hospital seat. The nurse is pulling out the needle, and even if she hasn't put it in his arm yet, his face is scrunched up in pain.

She feels bad. She's not a heartless monster. She has kids, and she's had to go through this same process with Dalia. It's motherly instinct that makes you feel the need to protect someone even if they aren't your child.

Which is why, despite her being cold towards him all morning, she grabs his free hand silently and lets him squeeze it as hard as he wants while his blood is being drawn.

It's not like she doesn't believe him. He looks just like her, Jude, Lila and their mother, the birth certificate he showed her has her mothers name on it alongside Father: unknown.

But she just can't trust it.

She just can't trust the random teenager that showed up on her porch and told her he's her brother. The photo he was holding...it's the one her mom said she lost and couldn't find when Camila asked for it. She couldn't find it because he had it. Does the woman even know he has it?

Jennifer called this morning, attempting to pick up the kids and drive them to school, but Camila ignored every message and buzz. She just can't do it. She can't tell her Danny is here, that'll be too much right now, but she's not exactly sure she can hide it in her voice.

How could her mother hide a human from the world for 15 years?

"Why aren't you in school?" Camila asks when they walk into KFC. It's empty other than a guy behind the counter who looks done with life, which means they can talk uninterrupted. Danny shrugs, but she nudges his shoulder and he gives in.

"Got my nanny to sign me out as sick. She was really happy I was finding you. And there's only like a month left of school anyway." He mumbles, eyes fixated on the menu of unhealthy items. Camila fights the urge to giggle at the way he whispers nanny like he's ashamed to have one, and she remembers that she was the exact same way when she was a teenager. It's not very cool telling people you're 16 and have a babysitter, but it's a rule in the Lenton family that no one can get to go away. Trust, both she and Lila tried.

She hums in understanding, answering a text from Taylor as she says, "Yeah well you're going back there soon. Education is important." He doesn't tell her he got the best detective moms money could buy, and he knows for a fact she was 1 point away from not graduating seven years ago.
