The team of men Lee Bo-va had following Yoon watched from a distance, quickly deciphering the situation. They called Lee from their car... the fury in his voice was that of a man with nothing to lose. He demanded assurance for his departure from the country, intending to kidnap Syung Mi and take her with him.
"Boss, that's complicated, how do you want us to proceed?" "That part I'll handle. Just wait until she's dropped off at her home, then follow him, cut him off, and bring him to this address. Don't mess up; time is critical, and we can't afford mistakes."
"I'll book my flight, and you two will do what you should've done a decade ago—this time, leave no trace of his body."
"How should we dispose of it? If anything happens to him, the cops will be knocking on your door," he cautioned Lee Bo-va. "By the time they put it all together, I'll be on my way to my destination."
"I'll leave the money in the usual manner... in cash. You two will need to leave the country again... They'll soon start looking into my connections."
"Yes, Boss. We'll notify you when the task is complete."
Lee had already purged his home of any incriminating evidence, incinerating the last of some documents and packing his final suitcase.
Detective Syung, returning her call, informed her that Yoon was escorting Mi home. "He threatened to kill Hyun Woo if I didn't pay the ransom," Mi admitted, glancing at Yoon.
"Are you at home?" inquired the detective.
""No, I'm on my way home now... I'll send my men to cover your house," the detective offered.
"I have my own security, and they're well aware of the situation... I'll be fine," was the reply.
"In that case, I'll also warn Mr. Woo," the detective suggested.
"There's no need. He's with me now, he has the information, and his home is secured," Mi responded, assuring the detective he wasn't needed—at least not tonight.
"Very well, I'll issue a warrant for his arrest based on your information. We probably won't apprehend him until tomorrow. Do not give in to his demands. A desperate man can resort to all sorts of malevolence if pushed too far. Disregard his calls, and both of you be vigilant for any suspicious activities, anyone tailing you or lingering outside your residences. Inform your security to increase their alertness," the detective directed, gesturing for his partner to come to his desk.
"Yes, Detective... We'll manage. Thank you, we both are eager to see this matter settled once and for all," they concurred.
Yoon, observing the exchange, felt his anxiety intensify as he considered what Lee Bo might do next.
"Mi, will you stay with me tonight?" Yoon inquired impulsively. "I don't think that's wise, considering your sister," Mi responded, visibly worried.
"Su Bin will understand; she wouldn't want any harm to come to you. I'll explain it to her," Yoon assured, holding her hand affectionately.
"Okay, I'll inform my assistant that I won't be in tomorrow. I'll also alert my chief of security," Mi consented, much to Yoon's relief.
"I need to gather a few things first... it won't take long," Mi assured, offering Yoon a reassuring smile.
He was nearing her home, while Lee Bo was en route to Syung Mi's father's house, intent on convincing her to join him. He still required her signature on the financial form.
Yoon drove through the gate of the house, while Lee Bo parked a block away, staying hidden, and hoped the passcodes to the back gate hadn't been changed. To his relief, they hadn't. As he watched security patrol the grounds, he waited in the shadows of the trees farthest from the house.
From a distance, he could see Syung's bedroom window.
"I'll be right back," she said to Yoon.
Syung Mi quickly entered the house. Lee Bo had just lit a cigarette when he saw her bedroom light turn on. Little did he know, Yoon was waiting for her.
He swiftly bypassed the guards on the ground to the lower entry off the veranda. He quickly entered the password and reset it as swiftly as he could.
The cameras were rotating around the property and did not catch him entering the house. He went up the back stairs from the kitchen. He waited a few seconds before approaching her bedroom. She had her back to him as he entered her room.
