2nd POV

After your conversation with Tendou you only felt slightly better, you hoped that a good rest would clear your mind and lessen the weight that had begun to rest on your shoulders since you had time to think over your interactions with Kenma.

Your room in the inn was nice, small and made of wood with a large window facing the lake. You pushed open the windows and a breeze blew in carrying the sound of lapping waves and the call of the loons you could see out swimming on the lake. The bed was warm with thick blue cotton sheets and a quilt with fish patterns sewn onto it. As you tried to fall asleep you focused on the painting across from you on the wall over the desk, it was a painting of the lake with a little boat floating over the ways in the boat there were two little people paddling along. As you focused on all the little ideas you began to feel your eyes droop down and finally close forcing you off into the world of dreams.

The sun beamed through your open window carrying in the smell of morning dew and the soft sounds of people waking in the morning and getting ready for their days, you dreaded this you knew you had to talk to Kenma today because if what you saw in that pool is true it might be your last chance to actually talk to him about your feelings and apologise for the miscommunication.

Making your way down you saw that you were the first of the group to come down, grabbing a table and quickly ordering a filling breakfast. Once your food came the rest of the group had made their way down into the dining area, you looked up as Kenma walked in and watched as he sat across from you ordering his food and then jumping into conversation with Tendou and Akaashi. As you were looking at him you noticed that he had glanced over at you, when he caught you looking at him he sent you a small smile which caused you to whip your head down to your food. As you were focusing on which piece of food would be the next optimal bite you felt a kick to your shin, looking up you were met with Daichis cheeky grin as he wiggled his eyebrows at you. Shaking your head you ignored him and focused back on eating your breakfast.

Once everyone had finished eating you all checked out and collected what you had and made your way down to the end of the dock to rent boats to take you across the lake. The boats could each hold 3 people, so Tendou, Akaashi, and Daichi grouped up. You suspected that Kenma talked to the latter two about yesterday and they created a plan with Tendou to force you and Kenma together, although their meddling usually annoyed you this time you were grateful for it as you would get a chance to talk to Kenma alone.

Once you were all situated in your boats Kenma cast a spell that would propel the boats on their own towards the base of the mountain where you would begin the ascent to the peak of the mountain. The boat ride was silent and awkward, you hated this you needed to say something.

"Kenma, I'm really sorry about what I said. I didn't mean for it to come out like I thought you were weak, I don't. I have seen how powerful your magic is and I know how strong you are. It's just that it had been stressful and I'm not used to being apart from the guys for so long, and I just care about you alot and I felt in that moment you were all I had and I just wanted to make sure that nothing would take that from me." You quickly blurted out, trying to say everything you needed in case he still didn't want to talk about it.

"It's ok (Insert Name), I get it you were just worried and that's understandable. I should also apologise for what I said, it was cruel of me to cut you off like that and not give you the opportunity to explain what you meant. We both messed up, but we're over that now." He responded, before turning back to face the mountain and focusing on the trip ahead.

You should tell him, something inside you spoke. You figured that part of you was right that you needed to tell him how you felt before all of this went terribly wrong, plus if he didn't feel the same you would probably never see him again. Just as you were about to say something you heard a loud crackling and a streak of red lightning lit up the sky effectively putting an end to your plans to confess. Quickly Kenma mumbled a spell and the boats began to pick up the ace creating a much larger wake behind them than before.

By the time the sun had reached its peak in the sky the boats had skidded up onto the shores, steadying himself Kenma stepped out of the boat and into the ankle depth water pulling up his robes so that they were out of the water. As you began to move to get out of the boat Kenma stretched his hand out towards you, taking it as you stepped out of the boat the two of you stared at each other until Akaashi let out a cough behind you. You both turned away from each other and moved towards the shore and out of the water, you ignored the fact that you only let go of each other's hand when you were too far apart to hold the other.

"We should make camp and prepare, we can't turn back now but at least we can pause and make a plan for whatever we might expect up there." Daichi ordered as he began giving out different jobs to everybody in the group.

Kenma POV

No fire was lit that night in fear of alerting any enemies around to our position, dinner was whatever could be found and the conversation was practically nonexistent, minus the hour spent planning and creating ideas on formations and battle strategies for the next day. After that tents were pitched in the expectation for rain, and a storm. The rocks we settled behind would be good for keeping the tide away and sheltering us all from the wind so that the tents didn't blow away.

As Kenma lay staring at the canvas canopy over him he thought of you, of how when he was apologising he should have said how he felt about you. But now it was to late he didn't want to distract you with his feelings right before they went into battle, he couldn't do that to you he couldn't put more pressure on you to protect him and he really didn't want to have to force you into making a decision that would be best made with the time to think. And so Kenma just stared and allowed the deep embrace of sleep to drag him away from the world of the conscious.

The next morning Kenma awoke to Daichi shaking him awake and handing him a quick breakfast before telling him to gather only what he needed for defensive and attack magic and to meet the rest of the group quickly. Once everyone was out and ready the trek up the mountain began, there was a little dirt path covered in stones and roots. Rain started to pour as we began ascending the slope there was a crack of thunder followed by streaks of red lightning that lit up the sky, the closer to the peak we got the more magic suffocated the air.

Finally we reached the peak. It was shaped like a bowl with large sharp rocks protruding from the flat surface of the peak, in the centre more rocks protruded, but these ones were larger, sharper and curved towards each other like a clawed hand closing into a fist. Surrounding that, there were piles of bones and pools of blood that all lead up to the curving rocks. In the centre of the rocks there was an altar, it was a large slab of black obsidian. Before the altar stood a man, he stood tall with bone white skin, he was marred with jagged scars and red ruins tattooed across him. He had on long black robes that were slung across his body and beneath the thick layers there was a red glow that seemed to emanate from within his bones.
