Amidst the shadows and the secrets

Night Twenty-One

Not knowing how she figured it out, he allowed it and pulled her with him on the chair. It was enough for one night. 

"I don't mind, Reiji, but your tea is getting cold." She made herself loose and got him his teacup. "I'm not making another one when you let it get cold." 

He heard the smile in her voice and accepted it. And not a moment too late. "Thank you, Chisana." He finished the tea before putting his arms around her again. 

"If you want you can bite but don't take too much. You aren't the first to bite me, okay." After all, this can be rather tempting for him. She knew her tea should be drinkable. 

Surprised by her offer, he took it. "I won't."

Getting ready for school, Chisana put the hairbrush down. So much for the usual morning routine. Getting back to her bedroom, she saw someone. "Kanato, what are you doing here?" She asked in confusion. Kanato's presence in her bedroom was unexpected, to say the least. 

"I'm thirsty," Kanato replied. "I want to bite you." 

"You know I won't stop you, Kanato, but I would appreciate it if I could have breakfast first. I don't know what will happen if you bite me on an empty stomach." She made sure she had everything in her bag for school. "Just like last time by the front door?" 

Kanato considered her request and nodded. "I need you after school for something." He walked with her downstairs to the kitchen. 

"Sure," she replied with a smile at him. "I don't see you much. Are you working on a doll, by any chance?" 

"No, for the past few days I'm in my room." Reaching the kitchen, he opened the door for her. "Enjoy your breakfast, Chisana. I'll wait by the front door." He got hungry for a different reason upon seeing his older brother serving breakfast. "Make something sweet, and I might join you for breakfast." 

Reiji had a faint smile. "Family dinner is still far off, but I don't see why not. It won't be tomorrow because I'm taking her shopping for a dress for the party. Thursday, Kanato." 

"Deal." Kanato turned around and teleported away.

Again when Yui entered the kitchen, she smelled something sweet in the air but nothing showed any sign of breakfast for her. With a scowl, she sat down in the knowledge that Reiji fixed her something. Was Chisana here with Reiji alone again having breakfast? Wondering and digging into her breakfast, she eyed Chisana coming from the pantry. The girl had to go. Chisana caused nothing but trouble for her. 

Chisana put her hand on his shoulder, asking for his attention. "I have everything. I'll see you by the front door since Kanato is waiting." 

Reiji appreciated everything she did to meet him halfway. "I know. I'll see you in ten minutes." 

Yui choked on a bite, hearing she had ten minutes to get to the front door. She couldn't make it in ten minutes! "Reiji-san, I can't possibly make it in ten minutes. I haven't even finished my breakfast." 

"Talking back at me without apologizing! You are making a scene and causing trouble left and right, blaming Chisana every time. You might have apologized to me for spilling and breaking a tea set, but you didn't have one good word for her. Hurry up." Reiji took the plate away when she had the last bite of her breakfast. "I have told you before that I don't like it when you create work for me. Go, we're leaving."
