Dipper's POV:
I raise my eyebrow at the girl in front of me, leaning against the doorframe. Mabel had gone off to her friend's house with the glue gun. Apparently, she wanted to make her dress again for the party at Pacifica's house. I can't say I blame her. If I had her skill I probably would too. "Well?"
"I mean- I guess we are friends now. I just needed an unbiased opinion about someone who wouldn't freak out or live in the same house as me and make things awkward." I open my water bottle and take a few big gulps. I mean, it does make sense. I notice her eyes on me as I'm drinking, a droplet going down my chin. I quickly wipe it off. "Are you thirsty?" She just nods. "Hm I don't know if there are more bottles- here take mine. I'll go look for another one in the basement-" I toss her my bottle which she clumsily catches and grins at me. "I caught it- I actually caught something thrown at me without dropping it!" I chuckle. Growing up I wasn't a sporty type either and dropped numerous things when trying to throw or catch it. However, I did learn after a while that Mabel felt the constant need to throw things around. It's gotten to the point where I can catch something without looking at the object by just following my instincts. I'd like to think as a superhero, though Mabel always makes jabs at it by commenting on my noodle arms. "I was going to do some monster hunting before the sun sets. Do you want to come along?" I looked in the opening to the basement for water bottles and unfortunately, it looks like we'll have to make a trip tomorrow to get more. "Yeah, that sounds awesome! I totally want to go with you! Let me grab my hat real quick and I'll be there!" I hear the stairs creek as someone runs up, and not even a minute later the same weight shifts its way down. "No more water it seems- let's hope we don't get thirsty on the way." She chuckles softly and points at a bag on her back. "No worries, I put the bottle in here. I don't mind sharing it if you are." I give her a smile before taking out my journal and walking into the forest.
"According to Grunkle Ford, there should be a cave system behind the waterfall that leads to ancient ruins. That's where he found this wheel-looking thing. It's one of the ciphers he's been unable to decode after Bill took over his body a few times and left it all over in this journal." I turn my head sidewards to face her only to completely forget what I was talking about. She has to be doing this on purpose right? I try to look away to cool my face down. She had put her hair up in a ponytail that goes through her hat which looks a lot like mine. Only hers has a parchment paper with a feather on it. "Of course, there'd be a cave behind a waterfall. How cliché-" I can't help but laugh at that. It sounds similar to when Mabel, Soos, and I were running away from a fake lake monster. "I guess so. But I'm hoping we'll find more than grunkle Ford did because he forgot to charge his flashlight before going." Soon enough we reach the place where Y/N had fallen off and crashed into the lake below. I notice her getting a bit uncomfortable. "Hey, are you ok?" She gives me a weak smile. I didn't really think about it but she probably feels anxious when thinking of her near-death experience. Let alone be in the same exact place. "It's ok. I've visited again after to reduce trauma but it's still on my mind you know? I just got to get comfortable coming here again by desensitizing and I'll be as good as new!" I gently take her hand and grab my flashlight guiding her to an almost completely faded path that goes behind the waterfall. "Come on then. If we're inside you won't think of the waterfall anymore." We soon found ourselves surrounded by darkness. The loud crashing of the waterfall is far behind us as we go further into the tunnels.
"Didn't you say there were creatures around here?" I hum. "Yes, Geodites. They're like living geodes. But they hide when there's light. Grunkle Ford used them to see when he came down here but while they did provide short-sighted light, they didn't provide as much as our flashlights right now. And I don't know about you but I prefer to see more than a few feet ahead." I abruptly stop as I notice carvings on the wall. "Is that?" I give a short nod. "It's the ruins."
"How come grunkle Ford never came back to write about them?" I look at her with a big grin. "I knew there was a reason I liked you! That's a great question. You know Bill the evil triangle guy we were warning you about? He's the reason our grunkle got trapped in other dimensions for 30 years. Though you make a good point. Maybe I should bring it up with him again so he can come look at this again. Back then when he passed by he had taken Mc Gucket with him to see the alien crash site. Shortly after he got sucked into the other dimension. I guess he hasn't thought of it since." I see her eyes starting to sparkle after hearing about the alien crash sight. "I'll take you another time don't worry. First, let's find more clues to what these symbols might mean." We stick close together, not wanting to get lost. Y/N is the first to find something.
"Dipper I think I've found your circle!" I rush to her side and sure enough, it looks pretty much identical to the one in the book.
"I wonder what the symbols could mean- are they some words like Japanese where a character holds symbolic meaning or-" I'm however soon interrupted. "They're the letters of the alphabet." "Wait what-? How do you know that?" She points to very, very, very small numbers that at times are almost unreadable next to the symbols. I look at the journal. Sure enough. They're in there too, I had just looked over them somehow. "There's 26 of them- well I'll be damned. You're a genius Y/N!" "Wait that's not all" She gently pushes me aside and points at the floor I'm standing on. It's not a floor at all, on closer inspection it's a trapdoor. It takes the two of us to lift the stone door and reveal a very dusty staircase. Slowly we go down together and I can feel the adrenaline kicking in even more with every step. Who knows what discovery we'll make down here?! It might be so ancient we'll get famous!
I almost scream as I feel someone holding my wrist, stopping me from going into the room. "Y/N?" "D-Dipper, let's go back, this is a bad idea-" "What are you talking about it's jus-" My words get stuck in my throat as I turn around and am faced with a giant carved Bill, surrounded by the zodiac signs on the wall. Candles on a pedestal burning, but not melting, unnaturally staying still as if they're plastic. But they're definitely real. The pedestal being a very big and sturdy rock, has something carved into it. The symbols we saw upstairs. I quickly scribble them down before taking Y/N's hand and rushing out of the cave system. Not wanting to stay a moment longer as I feel like we're being watched. Y/N never even dared to set foot in the room, staying on the last stair as if something bad was going to happen if she stepped off of it. I can't blame her. At least she's being cautious. We remain quiet the entire way home until we can finally properly breathe again as we see the shack. "Are you ok?" She nods. "Just a bit shaken is all. Dipper, I don't want to go back there... I felt like something was trying to push me into that room... It was like a demon begging me to get in there..." I gently squeeze her hand a bit tighter. "You never have to go back. I promise. And even if somehow you do, I'll do everything I can to make sure you're safe." Her lips part as she's about to say something but we get interrupted by the honking of a car horn. Not even a minute later, Mabel knocks us over with a big hug, our hands letting go. "Woah there!" "Did you miss us?! We went to several stores to get groceries and our Summerween costumes!" "Um excuse me?" Mabel and I turn our heads to face her.
"What is Summerween?"
