I'm not sure if Mabel started to choke cause of the glitter and toys in her drink, or the fact she got so surprised by my appearance she choked. However she was a coughing fit when she saw me walk into the room. Gruncle Stan came in wondering what the commotion was about, holding a new freshly baked stack of pancakes. He barely was able to put it down when he almost tripped over himself. His eyes having landed on me. I give him a soft smile as I walk up to them.
"Mind if one more joins you at the table?"
The two shake their heads as if they just saw a ghost. I take place next to the wall and sigh happily as I put a piece of a pancake in my mouth. It was delicious and I was really hungry. My throat still felt a little funny but it didn't hurt anymore. And the warmth from the freshly stancakes were helping my throat feel better. I just listen to the others as they have small talk, not really feeling up to taking part of the conversation. They seemed to be a really close family and I couldn't be happier to be able to stay with them. It just made me feel a little shitty about my own family situation. Family drama just follows you everywhere, no matter how far you try to run from it.
My thoughts get consumed by that as I remember I still have to write a letter to my parents. I forgot about that... . What should I tell them? I can't tell them about the waterfall or I'd have to go home again. In the beginning I wouldn't have minded going back home. But now I've been on that way too long bus ride, I don't want to go through that again. On top of that I've made new friends here, already having more than I ever did at home. My parents were right. This small town and fresh air was doing me well. Maybe I should write them on the fact I got sick but everyone treated me well so now I'm already all healed up? Yeah that sounds about right. Maybe I can throw in some nonsense about the fresh air helping me heal faster. They'd buy that. On top of that it'd give one more excuse on why I wouldn't return home to them by the end of the summer if I decide so. I'd get them to let me stay here as a full time home and just go home for the summer to them. I have people looking out for me full time instead of seeing my parents with some luck one weekend after 2 weeks before they have to go again.
"Do you want some juice too?"
I snap out of my thoughts as I hear a question. Mabel of course. I smile at her and decline politely, I would love some juice but the Mabel juice she's holding in a can looks like it'll kill me. Next thing I know we're going on a boat-trip and everyone is joking about some mysterious monster in the lake.
This is going to be an interesting summer.
