Emma Smith

It was finally my last day of work in New York, and the last day of my time there. A bittersweet feeling washed over me as I prepared to leave. Today marked the end of my job at the library, where I had spent the past three years. It had become a second home to me. The thought of saying goodbye to my friends and my boss, Mr. Hudson, who had become like a father figure to me, filled me with sadness.

I was also extremely happy to return to my pack and start a new life with my mate by my side. Henry and Stacy in our group chat mentioned that they were organizing a farewell party for me and even invited Ashton. I felt a little nervous about telling Ashton, recalling his reaction the last time Henry and Mr. Hudson visited me after my return from Alpha Aiden's pack hospital. Although I was thrilled to see Ashton's jealousy and possessiveness towards me, I didn't want Henry and Ashton to part ways on a sour note.

To my surprise, when I informed Ashton about the invitation, he was actually excited. I even mentioned Henry's proposal to me and the details of our conversation, but Ashton didn't seem bothered, except for a slight twitch in his eyes, a result of Lucas's possessiveness towards his mate. Ashton assured me that he fully trusts me and accepts my friendship with Henry. His words touched me deeply, and I felt grateful to have such an understanding and supportive mate by my side.

As Ashton and I walked into the library, our fingers intertwined, we were greeted with a chorus of cheers and applause. The room was decorated with twinkling fairy lights, colorful streamers, and an array of balloons, creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere. Stacy hurried over to me, giving me a warm hug and whispering, "We're going to miss you, Emma." She then turned her attention to Ashton, teasing him in a playful manner that caused him to blush and look flustered for the first time in my presence. It was a surprising sight, considering he had always effortlessly charmed other girls since Emily had broken his heart. Despite the unexpected reaction, I found his embarrassment endearing, knowing he was reacting that way because of my feelings. His consideration for my feelings and response to Stacy's playful advances only deepened my love for him.

Stacy handed me a glass of my favorite soft drink, aware of my aversion to alcohol, and offered Ashton a glass of champagne before leading us to a table overflowing with delicious treats. Mini sandwiches, cheese platters, and a beautiful cake with my name on it awaited us. The thoughtful gesture brought a smile to my face, as I appreciated the effort put into planning this special party.

My colleagues welcomed me with warm hugs and laughter, reminiscing about our shared experiences. Mr. Hudson delivered a heartfelt speech, praising my dedication and the positive impact I had on the library. Henry followed with a witty poem that had everyone laughing.

As the evening progressed, the energy in the room intensified. We grooved to the music, engaged in games, and exchanged stories. I couldn't help but express my gratitude for the amazing individuals who had made my experience at the library truly unforgettable. It was a first in my three years here, or rather, I should say a first in my entire life, to witness a library that was not hushed but alive with chatter and laughter.

A highlight of the party was a surprise performance by the library's children's choir. They sang a beautiful rendition of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow," filling the room with joy. Tears welled up in my eyes as I felt overwhelmed by the love and appreciation from everyone. Ashton had a proud smile on his face, happy to see everyone celebrating his mate. I was emotional, reflecting on the past three years and the connections I had made with Mr. Hudson, Henry, and Stacy. Despite some initial hesitation with Henry's feelings, everyone made me feel truly special. It was a bittersweet moment.

Later that evening, I was chatting with Stacy and two other colleagues when I noticed Ashton and Henry standing at the other side of the room, deep in conversation. I could tell that they were talking about me, and I couldn't help but excuse myself and approach them.
