AN: Hi! As usual, proper AN at the bottom :) We're still alive, and happy 4th July to all the Americans out there :)

CHAPTER 6: Socialising...on a train!

People filled every gap possible. The platform was filled to the brim with children and parents. I could see other obvious 'Muggle-Borns' like me and some very obviously senior students at the 'Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry'. I felt slightly lost in the series of bright happy faces and, once again, felt the depressing feeling that I was not going to fit in, tugging at my gut. I looked up at my mum and dad both beaming with pride. They both looked like they actually fit in here...unlike me. I felt a twinge of guilt at the possibility of disappointing them. Nope, not a possibility of disappointing them. It's reality.

"Quickly, dear, get on the train before it leaves!" My mother panicked, ushering me onto the train. My dad bent down and handed me the heavy trunk we'd purchased at an antiques shop, which was full to the brim with all my robes and equipment. Once that was done, I got onto the train, pausing at the door. I stopped. Both of them were smiling, genuinely happy for me. I felt a sudden panic at leaving them. All this time I had been too worried about the magic aspect of the school, I'd completely forgotten I was going be boarding. Now, I wasn't sure whether I could actually survive, but for the sake of my parents, I gave a weary smile.
"Well, be good dear." My mother said softly, yet I could still hear her despite the rowdy surroundings. "Yes, no need to get into trouble. Keep your nose clean and watch your back," my dad smiled. Standing on the train, I suddenly felt a pang of...sadness? Despite my personality, they were my parents after all and I would not see them until next Christmas. Professor Flitwick had said that we are allowed home in the Christmas and Easter holiday.I smiled briefly at my parents, and was engulfed in a hug from my mother who was sobbing uncontrollably, almost pulling me off the train. My father laughed and steadied me. I hesitated before getting off the train and giving them a proper smile, which my parents returned, looking almost proud of me. Well it must be a surprise, I don't think I have smiled genuinely in a long time.

"That's my girl." My father said ruffling my hair, after I let go of me emotional mother. I briefly hugged him and stepped back onto the train. Slowly the red engine began to move forwards. I raised my hand in farewell. I kept my hand up even as my parents became smaller and smaller. I watched my proud mother and father wave me off until they were nothing but dots. I sighed, almost shocked to see my hand still mid-air! Closing my eyes, I turned around. Now I just must find an empty carriage to sit in. Professor Flitwick had said that students usually changed into their school robes when they were about half an hour away (I had dreaded how long the journey was), so I set off to find an empty compartment, in my 'Muggle' attire.I walked down the aisle, looking into the compartments as I went. I wasn't surprised to find that most of them were particularly full. As I strolled, I found a particularly rowdy one. I glanced through the window to find a sea of red heads and noirettes (what are they called? I think black haired people should have a name too!) all laughing at the two boys in the middle, one ginger and the other black haired. They reminded me of the awkward cousins of Rose from Diagon Alley. I'm not sure but it looked like most wizards were ginger, whatever they say.
"Do it again, James!" A smaller red head was laughing. I turned, but suddenly froze, as I heard Professor Flitwick in their compartment, talking to the laughing children.
"Now, you are all here to learn Charms, as you know." I turned, and peered back in their compartment, hiding at the side so they couldn't see me. "In our first lesson-" The black haired boy stopped imitating him and succumbed to laughter like the rest of them.

"That was marvellous!" Someone choked.
"James! You need to do that in the corridor, imagine what the teachers would say?!" The other joker boy said between laughter.
"Filius! Where are you?" That set them off into more giggles.
"What was that, James?!"
"It was McGonagall!"
"What, she sounds nothing like that!" Someone was saying indignantly.
"Scuse me, I can't imitate women, my voice isn't high enough! Eurgh, come on Fred, let's go, seeing as some people don't appreciate my talents!"
