CHAPTER 25We braced ourselves for impact, big none of the sort came.
I felt both the boys tense as we emerged in a small cave of sorts.Such cowards...
I mean...its just a cave...It was a small tunnel (actually) and, like the rest of the castle, was lit by many burning torches. We peered down the corner of the corridor, but could see nothing but darkness as it disappeared sharply to the left. To see past that, you'd actually have to walk down.
"Where are we...?" Felix muttered.
"I don't know..." I honestly replied.I mean what was I supposed to say? That we were in a tunnel? I mean even Felix should be able to work that out...
I stared around at this tunnel. It had the same atmosphere as the rest of the castle; magical, eerie and mysterious. The heavy contrast between light and dark meant that shadows coated the walls. There was a certain sense of unknown.
"Hey guys look at this..."
We both walked towards Albus who was staring at the wall lit by the flame above...
Upon the wall were a series of letters and symbols. I noticed some tended to repeat but they obviously said something, a message of sorts. But the scratchings continued all the way across the wall. I noticed that some were bunched together, almost as though they'd been added at different times. There were long lengthy paragraphs which spread across the stone, and some where simple short lines.
"Is it Egyptian...?" Felix muttered.
"Nah...I don't think so..." Albus replied."It's Greek and Roman." I stated.
Both of the turned to me giving me equally surprised looks.
"What?! I'm a massive fan of Percy Jackson! About the only book I could stand..."Actually that wasn't true. Sure I'd read Percy Jackson, and sure it was about the best book I'd come across, but that wasn't how I knew it was Greek and Roman.
But no one needs to know that...
Both their eyebrows were raised, even higher, if that was possible.
"Ugh! Another time..."I answered, but not really answering, just trying to draw attention away from myself. But not because I was embarrassed, but more to stop any suspicions forming.I glanced back around the cave-y tunnel-y thing...
Now I looked carefully, I could see that the troll head was a re-occurring theme around the place.
I don't know who designed this place, but a big ugly troll head doesn't seem like a great architectural feature...
Just saying...
I glanced to the other wall to see that the Latin and Greek were scratched in everywhere...
It's almost as though someone kept coming back here, to add more and more.
"I wish I could actually read Latin..." I muttered, suddenly regretting the fact that Hogwarts doesn't teach the dead language, unlike muggle schools...
I stepped up towards the other wall this time, trying to find some sort of reoccurring theme, something I could use to research.
But it was all just a mix of English letters all jumbled up.
"Asha...it's quite late...I think we should leave..." Albus muttered, putting his hand on my shoulder to cease my obsession with the walls.
God that sound really sad...
Then again, a lot of my hobbies are quite sad...
"Mmm.." I replied, not really wanting to accept the fact that he was right...
"Come on Asha..." Felix tried,"don't worry we'll come back, for sure.." He smiled as I turned to him.
"Promise..." I asked, holding out my pinkie finger,
"Pinkie promise!" He laughed, tightening his little finger around mine.
"Anyways, I think we just found the real Asha..."I just gave him a confused look, but Albus spoke up next to him.
"Yeah, no Felix is right...why aren't you like this with the others...?""Erm..."
I was lost for words. What are you supposed to say to that? I didn't consciously act different just now, curiosity just got the better of me. I suppose I always feel inferior when I'm with Rose and Lena and they're all talking about magical stuff, and then there's me. To be fair I think it's the same with all muggle-borns. Unless your pretty sure you know something, you just tend to stay quiet, scared of saying something wrong. But in this case, the troll was something I knew. And so I didn't stop to think what people would think of me. And also I didn't have my closet friends around. So it's like I'm going to have to explain this to them. I don't even have to tell them...
Do I?"Guys...guys!"
The exclamations echoed scarily around the walls, making both Albus and I jump.
"What!?" I exclaimed, abandoning our quiet voices, that we'd unconsciously been using up to now.
I ran to where Felix stood. His hands were flat against the wall. The wall we'd come through. His hands. Flat. Wall.
Albus cursed loudly. I stared at him, in shock, before shaking myself to focus on the problem at hand.
"The walls sealed itself on us!" Felix exclaimed loudly.
"Well nah, Captain obvious!"
I shouted back at him, frustratedly. Why couldn't he say something useful for once?Hey that's my insult!
I actually don't care...
"Calm down! Okay so we can see the tunnel leads down there, let's see if there's another way out..."
I stared at Albus once again. How can someone be so level headed to a situation like this...?
"Just come on..." He muttered.
So all three of us ventured down this tunnel. It's was actually quite long, and there were slopes up...probably ascending to the next floor of the castle.
But all the way, the small Latin Greek-y inscriptions followed us. As I walked on, I dragged my hand across the sand-stone, tying to make sense of it all.
When I first found the wall that wasn't a wall thing, you know earlier today with Lena and Rose, I thought maybe someone was trying to hide something. Trying to deceive the innocent bystander, but allow the manipulative accomplice to access the information.
But what was this information...?It hurt my brain thinking about it all so, as one would, I stopped thinking about it.
My feet continued to drag against the stone, my hand brushing the small indentations against the wall. I closed my eyes, straining my ears, but you could hear nothing but our three footsteps.
My head began to consciously nod to the rhythm of our feet, and my mind wandered further away to thoughts of things I would never tell a soul.
Like how I knew this was Roman and Greek.
Or the real reason why I hate reading.
Or the story behind why I was ever diagnosed with depression.
But then again...all of the above come back to the same person.
AN: DUN DUN DUN...
But yeah erm... Sorry this is late...
I really don't have a good excuse apart from the fact that I was vomiting last night...
But yeah I'm better if any of you want to know..I feel like i should say a lot but I'm not sure what so I'm just gonna leave you here...
I'm real tired so good night people...
Don't forget to vote comment and stuff...
