CHAPTER 18

We filed after everyone else down past the greenhouses and back to the main castle building.

"So what now?" Alyssa said suddenly making me jump,
"Oh my Merlin! I'm so sorry!" She apologised as I stumbled in shock.
"It's okay! I'm fine!" I reassured getting my balance and continuing down the hall.

"You sure about that Karthi? Cause you never seem quite sure about anything! Like you didn't even know how to prune a flutterby bush! Everyone knows that!"
I turned around to see yet again, the unmistakable figure of Her Royal Buttness, Miss Gertrude Close.

Great.

I opened my mouth, to ask her what she was doing during Herbology because I specifically saw her stay at least a metre away from the tray of soil, but Rose beat me to it.

I think she and Lena think I can't defend myself. I'll have to talk to them about that...

"Seriously?! What in the name of Merlin is you problem?!?!" Rose practically yelled.
"My problem?! My problem?! My problem is her!!" She screamed back, pointing a long finger in my face.

Rose opened her mouth again but this time another voice interrupted her.
"Dear lord! What in the name of Merlin is all this yelling about?"
Rose quickly shut her mouth as the infamous figure of Professor McGonagall came into view.
Her nostrils flared when her eyes landed on the group of us.
"I would never have expected this behaviour from my own Gryffindors!" She turned to see Gertrude and her cronies smirking successfully. "And I don't think Professor Scroggin would be pleased with the misbehaviour of his own students either!"
Gertrude's smirk fell slightly but she still looked humoured.
"As first years, you must learn that misbehaviour will NOT be tolerated at Hogwarts. And shouting in the corridors does indeed count as misbehaviour!" She whispered dangerously, as though she was setting an example by not shouting despite the fact that she was visibly seething...
"I'm afraid I'll have to place you Miss Weasley and Miss Close in detention."

I gasped. Okay, look don't judge me! Like, I'm sorry but wow! I knew Hogwarts gave detentions, I mean it's like any other high school, but I didn't think we'd get them so quickly...
And for what? Yelling in a corridor...? Doesn't everyone do that....?
And it's Rose as well!
She's probably the most well behaved student in our whole year, or even the whole school for that matter!
I mean I bet you she was planning on doing Professor Longbottom's homework as soon as a piece of parchment and a quill were present. She's just like that...
And anyway it's Closes' fault anyway...she started it!
I think Lena was thinking along the same lines because she said...

"No, Professor, that's not fair! It... we were provoked, Professor..." Lena suddenly stopped and mumbled off.

Can't say that didn't please me. I don't know if she was about to say it was Close or say about me, but either way, I don't need the teachers to think I can't handle a little banter as well...
I mean imagine that. They'll all treat me like a fragile vase that needs several layers of cotton wool wrapped around her...

"Yes Miss Willows...? What were you provoked by?" Mcgonagall prompted.
"Err...nothing..." Lena looked down at her feet, trying to cover up.

"Well in that case, I feel you should join your peers in detention as well. Interrupting and questioning a teacher's decisions is also something not accepted at Hogwarts. Come to my office at 8 o'clock on Saturday. Don't be late..." She ordered glancing at all three of them before sweeping her cloak and walking away.

I stared with wide eyes at Lena who looked like she's been hit over the head with a hockey stick.
I'm not even kidding...

"Well someone's in a bad mood..." Alyssa muttered trying to break the silence.
