CHAPTER 7
"Hello, I'm Gertrude, Gertrude Close and I'm the queen of the world so you should all kiss my feet!" Lena mimicked in a whiney voice, still shaking with anger.
Or hatred? I don't know?
"One day I'll get the better of that girl." She whispered in her normal voice, her eyes narrowing dangerously.
She turned around suddenly to find me staring at her curiously. I immediately changed my expression, not to seem rude, but I think she noticed. For she suddenly realised she was standing and sat down, then plastered an obviously fake smile on her face and said "so sorry, where were we?"
I sighed. I hated it when people faked their emotions, pretending to be something they're not. That's why it was so easy for me to start hating everyone once I'd become 'depressed'. Everyone who came to help me made it obvious that they wished to be anywhere but there, so I made sure that they'd never come back again. It's probably why I never had any friends in the first place. And wasn't likely to have any, any time soon.
"You don't need to pretend you're not angry, not when you're with me." I sighed.
"Really? Cause I could go on forever about her! So... you really wouldn't mind?" Lena suddenly exclaimed.
"Really." I said calmly.
"Ha, you will after I rant a bit. But ew, even the thought of her makes me feel..ugh.." She shuddered. I nodded sympathetically.
"But, of course, you're Muggle-born and I haven't told you anything about Hogwarts and the magical world!" She squealed.
I smiled, encouraging her to continue. She started talking again, smiling happily, and somewhere inside of me I realised that I had cheered her up! Me of all people!
I stared out of the window to see the gradually changing landscape, and listening to her talk about the four houses and its founders.
"Yeah, so Gryffindor is the red colour..that's where the brave people go.. my Uncle Seamus was in Gryffindor! He was good friends with Harry Potter! You've heard of Harry Potter, right?" She asked.
"Yeah, I think someone might have mentioned it." I lied. I didn't tell her that I'd started on the books, and I don't know why. Or why I didn't tell her I started searching up Harry Potter fanfiction. But still, if I said something, she'll wonder why I never read them before and then I'll have to explain how I hated them and then about my 'depression' all that, with added jazz hands on the side! (note sarcasm).
And trust me, I'd just met someone who didn't seem disgusted by me...I didn't want to scare them away just yet!
"It?" She asked. I mentally kicked myself for thinking about the series rather than the actual person.
"Did I say 'it'? Sorry... Professor Flitwick mentioned him though."
"Oh, you know, Professor Flitwick!" She asked excitedly oblivious to my previous inner mental argument. "Yes, my Uncle knows Professor Longbottom. He teaches Herbology- and I've met him once. My parents told me about Flitwick and McGonagall cause they were there when they were children. I think Professor Vector and Professor Sinistra will be there but I think everyone else is new. Oh, and of course, there's the fairly new head! I can't remember her name but I wonder what she'll like! Apparently she's nice though."
I nodded in agreement, glad that our friendship didn't seem to require much talking on my part. I heard a voice outside the compartment, and jumped up and opened the door, before any more Gertrude Closes could come in. I muttered a sorry, as I almost bumped into a kindly looking lady.
She looked relatively old, and was holding a trolley filled with sweets.
"Anything off the trolley, dears?"
I was too busy gaping, but Lena jumped straight up to find her purse. I stood up uncertainly looking at the selection.
She straightened up and saw me looking wearily at the trolley.
"I'll tell you what. How about we buy different stuff so you can work out what you like. Well. By everything, not the horrible stuff. Not the liquorice wands, sorry. Only the stuff I like because I'm not wasting my money on liquorice and such." I laughed.
"Sure." For the first time, I realised how hungry I was.
A few minutes later, we collapsed onto the seats, arms full of cauldron cakes, chocolate frogs, Bertie's Botts beans of every flavour and what not!
We sat for some time, devouring the food and having casual conversations about Hogwarts and ourselves (well, more Lena than me), when the compartment opened for the 3rd time.
"Oh hello Lena...I've been looking for you!" Said a girl I suddenly recognised as the one I had met in Diagon Alley.
"And...oh, Asha isn't it?" She asked. I nodded and she smiled. "Nice to see you again. Lena! You've been eating for so long you haven't changed into your robes!" She scolded amiably.
"Oh gosh! Yes! And it was completely me who just left and didn't come back! You know I said I would depend on your for the changing!" she added glaring playfully at Rose.
"The changing? We're only putting on robes Lena! Besides, James told me you'd gone and started socialising so I thought I might as well leave you to it. Get changed!"
"Butthead." Lena muttered.
However, we both immediately pulled on our fresh new robes.
"We're almost there, you know," Rose pointed at the rising hills outside the window and sitting down next to me.
"Yes, I can't wait to see Hogwarts for the first time! They say it looks amazing!"
"I'm more worried about the sorting" said a quiet voice outside the door.
Rose pushed it back to reveal two boys.
"Oh it will be fine Albus!" Rose insisted to the paler of the two. "You're such a worry guts! Honestly!" She laughed
"Yeah but what if I am put in Slytherin." He said pointedly.
"Why what's wrong with Slytherin?" I asked for the first time. Everyone looked at me and I started to regret speaking.
"They say everyone who's gone there has turned out dark and evil!" Lena whispered theatrically.
The others rolled their eyes but remained serious. Lena carried on.
"Ugh.." She said shuddering "can't even think about it...! But you won't be there Albus, your whole family's in Gryffindor! You're the son of the chosen one for goodness sake!" She exclaimed loudly and everyone laughed. Albus still looked worried, but seemed slightly less so.
"This is what I've been trying to tell you for the past hour!" Retorted the other boy, whom as yet had not spoken. He had scruffy blonde hair that fell casually over his eyes. He had the air of mischief about him.
"Yeah well, your way of reassuring me wasn't very helpful, Felix!" Albus retorted
"I was supposed to be reassuring you?" Felix exclaimed in mock shock.
"Oh I thought I was encouraging the fact! Sorry, my bad!"
Everyone burst out laughing except Albus, who looked annoyed at his joker friend.
He suddenly looked at me, and he frowned. When everyone had calmed down he said..
"Sorry, I don't think I've met you before, you are..." he asked politely holding out his hand. I took it but before I could say anything Rose said,
"But Albus we saw Asha at in Weasley's Wizard Wheezes!"
"Oh right," he understood "sorry Asha! I have a really bad memory"
"Don't worry. Nice to meet you." I smiled. I seemed to be getting the hang of this!

"Well sorry to disappoint you ladies, but Albus and I must be off!" Felix suddenly said into the silence. He saluted and dragged Albus out.
"Oh yes, I better get my stuff, we're almost there!" Rose said suddenly peering out the window. "See you at Hogwarts" she smiled and with that she left.

"Well I guess this is it then!" Lena stated dramatically. I smiled. She had a habit of making everything dramatic.
"Yeah, this is it." I repeated a ball of emotion in my stomach.
But this time it wasn't fear; it was excitement!
I was going to Hogwarts!
Come on! Even I had to be excited by this!
