AN: Heya! Catlee ici.
I sank down on the bench, smiling to myself. It suddenly felt like the volume had been turned back on, and I heard the cheer (for me) from the Gryffindor table. Several people patted my back as I sat down.
I looked to my side to see an older girl. She smiled at me. She had she had long silvery blonde hair to her waist, and had a pleasant face. In one word she was utterly...beautiful. I don't generally call people beautiful...but this girl was unreal, seriously. So wrapped up in her beauty, I forgot she was looking at me too. She tapped me on the shoulder and I jumped. She laughed.
"It's okay," she said when I started blushing, "I'm used to it. I'm part Veela you see. My mum got it a lot, and apparently I inherited it almost more than most people have since my great grandma." She said proudly. Wait, veela? I kicked myself for not reading the whole series. Okay, fine, I know I should have! But after that party, I only got to the part where Hagrid knocks on the door at Hogwarts, because I just couldn't concentrate. Thank God I decided to pack the first book in my trunk. But wait, veela? She seemed to notice my confused expression.
"Veela are magical women who are extraordinary beautiful- yes, I know I am, I don't deny it- and shower beauty on all those around them. They can also make men do hilarious things!" She added mischievously with a wink. "But don't you worry about that! I'm Dominique Weasley by the way! Oh and I'm a prefect so you can ask me and Oliver-" she pointed to a boy further down with black hair and was sitting with a group of boys, sniggering silently at a joke one of them had just told, "- anything you need to know! It's Asha isn't it?" She asked.
I nodded, still slightly in shock from what had just happened. "Honestly, Oliver! Look at him! He's supposed to be a prefect and that means listening and watching and at least trying to make the first years feel at home! While he's just laughing with his stupid friends, I just- eurgh." She scowled, and as the Hufflepuff table cheered for 'Lott, Lizie', she leaned down the table and hissed at Oliver. Oliver turned, and I could see some of his friends dropping their jaws at her, but she wasn't amused.
Unwilling to witness the silent argument that was sure to occur between them, I turned my head back to the stool, which was now sorting 'Scorpius Malfoy' a boy with short blond hair scraped back behind his ears. He had his eyes screwed up and was so tense on the stool I started to feel sorry for him, but then it shouted "-Slytherin!" Slytherin? The evil house. Great. I felt sorry for an evil person. But can that be true? I mean, Pippa seemed nice enough and she was friends with Magnolia...
I was about to speak to Dominique again, when Professor Flitwick called out the next name.
"Maple, Pippa!" I glanced up, to see the girl who had come on the boats with us walking to the stool. She sat down, and I held my breath, hoping desperately that she would be in Gryffindor with me. She'd seemed nice. I gave a slight sigh of disappointment, as after a bit, the hat shouted:
"HUFFLEPUFF!" I mentally shook myself- she's not in Slytherin, I can still be friends with her. I mean, it doesn't really matter, does it? Being friends with other houses. And actually, on that point...
"Are all Slytherins bad?" I asked Dominique, as another girl walked up to the stool.
"No, well some of them are decent... it's like saying all Gryffindors are decent, which isn't true. They're there because of the outlining qualities, ambition, cunning, and so on. Of course some of them are awful though...only on the train I had to tell if some Slytherin girl for insulting a Muggle-born! Honesty, you'd have thought that after the second Wizarding war, people would stop the blood status hate!"
I stared at her slightly confused, trying to remember the second wizarding war- which one was that? Great, I really wish I hadn't been distracted and had read the whole series over the holidays. "Oh don't worry, you'll learn about it in History of Magic! Although I'm not sure whose teaching this year, cause Professor Binns left last year..oh but I can tell you the others. So Professor Flitwick-"
