Rocky Valley, Sinnoh

In a flash, two months had come and gone.

"Ready, and... Battle begin!"

A Pikachu grinned confidently as his cheeks began to spark with electricity. The Mouse Pokémon was quick to lunge forward, running as quickly as he could toward his opponent. On the other side of the makeshift battlefield was an Oshawott, who stood still as he began to rack his mind, watching the Pikachu's every move.

"Make sure to keep this battle light! The Ion Cup starts tomorrow!" Shouting at the battle was a Samurott, who specifically eyed the Pikachu, "That means you, Jacob! Don't use your power!"

"Aw man..." The Pikachu, Jacob, huffed as he approached the Oshawott, "Whatever, I'm winning this one, Ollie!"

Oliver's eyes narrowed before he raised his scalchop, "If you keep talking, I'll take advantage!" Swiftly, the Oshawott threw the scalchop, which glided through the air toward Jacob.

The Electric-Type quickly jumped over the assumed direction of the scalchop, the electricity coming from the red sacks on his cheeks increasing in voltage. He prepared his electricity in order to use Thunderbolt. But, before he could use the attack, he felt something strike his foot. Jacob looked over at his foot, noticing that Oliver's scalchop had hit it. In an instant, the inertia from the scalchop traveled to Jacob's foot and sent him flipping forward.

"Not again!" Jacob exclaimed, sprawling and spinning toward the ground.

The Samurott, Michael, watched on as the two battled, taking note of the manuver Oliver had just pulled off. His brows raised with intrigue as he replayed the brief exchange in his mind. He saw that when Oliver had thrown his scalchop, it was angled moreso to the ground than it was at Jacob. So, when the Pikachu made a move to jump over it, the scalchop hit the ground and made a sharp angle upwards and into Jacob's foot.

Michael nodded to himself, a small smile on his face. He was impressed by how quickly his son had picked up the method of throwing scalchops effectively. Especially in the way he just had. Sharply changing the trajectory of a throw without the help of a surface pointed directly in the other direction was a technique he wasn't sure Oliver would be able to pick up in such a short time. That strong mind of his was to be credited for such a feat.

Jacob hit the ground, rolling in order to disperse the force of the impact before turning his attention back to his opponent. Much to his surprise, though, Oliver was nowhere to be seen. The Pikachu took a quick look around, wondering what his best friend was up to.

It wasn't long before he noticed the Oshawott quickly approaching him with the help of Aqua Jet. Jacob rose to his feet, releasing the stored energy in his cheeks with the use of Thunderbolt. Though, this Thunderbolt wasn't to attack, but rather to use the blinding light from the attack at close range in order to impair Oliver's sight.

The Oshawott grunted, his focus switching to preserving his eyes instead of attacking. This was just what Jacob needed. Oliver's course changed slightly, leading to the Water-Type missing his target and landing on the ground a few feet away from Jacob.

Oliver refused to give him a moment to rest, using Aqua Jet once more in order to launch himself toward Jacob once more. Jacob clenched a paw, prepared to do whatever he needed to in order to win the quick parring match. Before the Oshawott completely closed the distance between them, he stretched his foot out and kicked the ground, sharply changing the trajectory of the attack. His goal at the moment wasn't to attack Jacob, but to recover his scalchop, which was on the ground between Jacob's feet.
