Dad: Donte homework
Donte: No!
Dad: Donte you get another detention you're grounded for 6 weeks
Donte: I'm not doing my homework
Dad: I'll super glue your ass to the chair if you're not down here in 10 seconds
I walked downstairs and sat in the kitchen. Dad had already got my homework out
Donte: I'm not doing it
Dad: it's easy Liam was doing this stuff when he was 10
Donte: but I'm not Liam am I. He's normal and I'm not
Dad: I don't mean it like that. It's just please just do your homework
Donte: no it's too hard
Dad: Donte please
Donte: dad please don't make me do it
Dad: I don't have the patience for your bullshit Donte. Just sit your ass down and get on with your homework
Donte: I'm not doing it
I got up
Dad: sit down and do the homework. The quicker you start the quicker you'll finish
Donte: you don't understand
I walk off
Dad: Donte come and do your homework
Donte: fuck off

I walked out the house and went to the fire station
Matt: hey Donte you okay?
Donte: is Kelly here?
Matt: yep he's in his quarters
I walked over to him and sat on his bunk
Kelly: you okay?
Donte: I'm fine
Kelly: I've had your dad on the phone.
Donte: he doesn't get it. He doesn't understand. He wants me to be like Liam. He thinks just cause Liam finds things easy I should be the same. We're different. I thought dad would understand out of everyone. But he doesn't I'm on my own. Dad has Erin. Liam has Emma. I'm on my own just like I was when mom died.
Kelly: hey you're not alone. You have me.
Donte: dads just pissing me off.
Kelly: what happened?
Donte: he was getting onto me about my homework. He wanted me to do it and I said no
Kelly: what if I come round and help you with it?
Donte: there's no point. It's useless. I'm stupid
Kelly: you're not stupid. Your brain just works a little differently so you just need a little extra help. There's nothing wrong with that. I needed extra help when I was in school and it helped me graduate. I'll come round and help you after shift okay
Donte: thank you

I went home and dad had fallen asleep on the sofa. I slammed the door shut and dad had shot awake
Dad: can you slam that door any louder?
Donte: sorry
I went into the kitchen and put music on the speaker while I was making noodles
Dad: turn it down Donte
I just ignored him
Dad: My heads pounding turn it down!
I turned it off and finished making my noodles. I put them in a bowl and sat beside dad on the couch
Dad: you best get that homework done. I don't want your teachers ringing me
Donte: relax it will get done
I finished my noodles and put my bowl in the sink when kelly walked in. Dad didn't say anything to him and just walked off upstairs
Kelly: what's up with your dad?
Donte: I think he's ill
Kelly: you ready to get on with some homework then?
Donte: no but dad will kill me if I don't get it done
Kelly: you got your overlay?
Donte: no my teacher printed it on peach paper
Kelly: what do you have to do?
Donte: i have to write about my life
Kelly: that's easy no?
Donte: it is but I can't. I should be able to remember things from when I was younger but I can't. I only remember the bad things
Kelly: well I can help you with it. I watched you grow up did I not?
I nodded
Kelly: when you were 5 we all went on a holiday to Spain. It was your first holiday and you loved it. We all struggled to get you to come back inside. You loved the pool and you would just talk to everyone.
Kelly was telling me everything.
Donte: why don't I remember most of this?
Kelly: the bad memories are less forgettable than the good ones
Donte: I guess
Kelly: go get your bag and ill put it away for you
I ran up to get my bag and gave it to Kelly
Kelly: leave it in front of the door okay
Donte: thank you.
Kelly: where's Liam?
Donte: he's staying with Freddie
Kelly: Rhodes?
Donte: yeah
Kelly: oh okay. You need anything before I go?
Donte: no it's fine. Erin should be home soon
Kelly: I'll see you soon okay
Donte: bye
Kelly left and I jumped in the shower before getting ready for bed. I was playing some PlayStation then fell asleep.

I was woken by someone throwing up. There's no one else so it must be dad. I went to the bathroom.
Donte: Dad?
Dad: go back to bed
Donte: you okay?
Dad: I'm fine go back to bed. You have school in the morning
Donte: dad you're sick
I walked into the bathroom and dad pushed me out and locked the door.
Donte: dad please unlock the door
He didn't answer. What is he passed out? I got my phone out and called Will

Donte: you sleeping?
Will: no I'm at work what's going on?
Donte: dads ill
Will: what's happened?
Donte: he's been off all day and I woke up to hearing him throw up. I walked into the bathroom and he looked really pale and sweaty.
Will: is he still in the bathroom?
Donte: mhm
Will: I need you to take his temperature
Donte: I can't
Will: I'll tell you how to do it
Donte: no I know how to do it it's just dads locked himself in the bathroom and he won't answer me. I think he's passed out
Will: shit okay. I can't leave can you ring Erin for me
Donte: okay
Will: I'll come round when I finish

Erin pov
I stayed late to help Hank with his bathroom. That's just how it is when you're the designated son. We removed everything and we had put in new tiles, a shower and sink. Halfway through my phone started ringing
Erin: Donte?
Donte: you need to come home?
Erin: what's going on?
Donte: I think dads passed out in the bathroom
Erin: what do you mean?
Donte: he's been throwing up but he locked the door and now he's not answering me
Erin: gimme 5 minutes
I put the phone down
Erin: I got to go
Hank: everything okay?
Erin: yeah Jays ill
I made my way home and Donte was waiting for me upstairs.
Erin: you should get to bed it's late
Donte: not until I know that dad's okay
I went and knocked on the door
Erin: Jay? Babe? Can you hear me?
Jay: mmm
Erin: can you unlock the door?
After a few minutes I heard the door unlock. I opened the door and Jay looked really pale.
Donte: dad you okay?
Jay: I'm fine go to bed Donte
Donte went to bed and I helped Jay to bed. I pulled his joggers and T-shirt off leaving him in just his boxers.
Jay: I'm cold
Erin: I know babe but you're sweating. You need to cool down.
I changed into my pyjamas and laid next to him. He put his head on my chest and I was running my fingers through his hair.
Jay: I love you
Erin: I love you too
I felt his breathing even out
