Luz rubbed her tired eyes as she brushed her teeth. She slept like a rock, and she really didn't want to wake up, but, you know... she's in school now. She spit into a sink and wiped her mouth, before heading to the door. Suddenly, her Spider-Sense, as she called it, went off. She opened the door and saw Eda... pointing a gun at her.
"Woah!" Luz screamed.
Eda pulled the trigger... it was empty.
"And you're dead." Eda said, "If this gun was loaded, you wouldn't be alive right now."
"I wasn't ready!" Luz said.
"Exactly!" Eda said, putting the gun in the drawer, "Criminals won't wait until you're ready, you need to be faster, stronger, smarter. There's no such thing as plot armor in real life, you get shot, you'll die."
"You have been shot before."
"My suit is designed to withstand most impacts from most guns, I can shrug off a few rounds that way. You are not like that, even with your faster healing, a good shot to the heart and you'll be buried next to your mother."
Luz looked down.
"Hey, I know I'm being hard." Eda said, putting a hand on Luz's shoulder, "But it's because I want you to be ready for what will be out there. I already lost my sister, I don't want to lose you too. You need to listen to that danger alert thing you got."
"My Spider Sense." Luz said.
"Yes, that, you need to use that in many situations, it will give you an edge." Eda said, leading Luz to the front door, "Now come on, don't want to be late on your first day... because then CPS might get involved and I don't want to deal with them."
They got into Eda's car and drove to school. After a few minutes, Eda pulled up at Luz's new school, Midtown High. Honestly, the girl had mixed feelings about starting at a new school, but what kid wouldn't?
"Alright, it may be your first day, but don't be afraid to establish dominance. Punch the first kid you see... but hold back on the strength," Eda told her.
"Yeah, I'm not getting detention on my first day. I appreciate the advice though," Luz replied.
"Knock 'em dead, kiddo," Eda ruffled her niece's hair.
Luz got out of the car and walked up the stairs to the school.
"Luz!"
Luz turned around and smiled, seeing Willow and Gus.
"Friends!" Luz said, hugging them, "Is Amity here?"
"Amity likes to get here early to work on projects." Willow said.
"She always did seem like the nerd type," Luz smiled and shook her head with amusement.
"So, how about we show you around?" Willow offered.
"Sure, thanks," Luz replied.
"Well, look what we have here." A new voice said, "What's up with the new kid?"
"Boscha, no." Willow said, "Don't do this, not here."
"What? I just want to meet the new kid." Boscha said.
Willow grabbed Boscha and pulled her around the corner, much to Luz and Gus' confusion. Willow came back to Luz and Gus after a minute.
"Sorry about that, I told Boscha that you are new and not to be mean."
Thanks, Willow," Luz smiled, "So, where do we start?"
"How about with the school itself?"
Willow and Gus had shown Luz around the school, from the classrooms to the cafeteria. Right now, they were at the football field.
"You know, I don't know much about sports, but do like watching them," Luz commented.
It was in that moment that her spider sense went off. She turned around just in time to catch the football that flew towards her.
"Nice catch," one of the players said.
"Thanks," Luz smiled.
"Mind throwing it back?" The player asked.
Luz threw the ball in a spiral, being sure to hold back her strength. The ball hit the player in the stomach, knocking them to the ground with the wind knocked out of him.
"Oops. Sorry," Luz apologized.
"For what? That was awesome!" the player said as he got back up.
"Dang, didn't know you had that kind of arm." Gus said, "Maybe you should try out for the team."
"Uh, I think I'm good." Luz said.
Later, they stopped by the school library.
"They have all the current volumes of Good Witch Azura," Luz grinned, "I haven't read these since I was a kid!"
"Looks like you and Amity have something in common then," Gus commented.
"Agustus, what have I told you about telling my secrets?" Amity asked, walking up to them.
"Hey Amity," Luz greeted her.
"Hi, Luz, glad to see you." Amity said, "How do you enjoy the school so far?"
"It's pretty cool." Luz said, "It very nice here."
Before Amity could respond, there was a voice.
"Yo, Mittens," a new voice said.
Everyone turned around to see an older girl with long blonde hair braided into a ponytail, a beauty mark on left cheek. She dressed in punk attire.
"Emira? What are you doing here?" Amity asked.
"You forgot your lunch," Emira said, lifting up her sunglasses while handing Amity and bag with her name on it.
"Oh, uh... thanks," Amity said, taking the bagged lunch.
Amity was then pulled into a brief hug by Emira.
"I'll pick you up after robotics club," Emira told her, kissing her cheek before walking out, leaving Amity blushing.
"Who was that?" Luz asked.
"My older sister," Amity replied.
"Yeah, your hot older sister," Gus said, only to receive stares from the girls, "Did I just say that out loud?"
The group nodded, Amity looked red and pissed at that statement, for several reasons, one of which being her friend, who was only 13, thought of her 16/17 year old sister like that. Luz decided to change the topic and looked at Amity.
"So, what was that about Robotics club?" Luz asked.
"Oh, that's... it's not important." Amity said, "Just a hobby."
"Hobby?" Willow asked, "Amity, you're basically a genius when it comes to that stuff."
"Not really, I just liked to watch my dad work when I was younger, guess I picked some things up."
"Amity, you fixed one of the office computers by making a CPU... out of a box of loose wires and a sim card." Willow said.
"Yeah, that sounds like a genius to me," Luz said.
Amity blushed and smiled.
"So, I think that's the end of our tour," Willow said.
"Great." Amity said, "I've spoken to the principal, Luz and I have our first class together."
No sooner than when Amity said that, the bell rang.
"Well, looks like it's time for class." Luz said.
"Yep, see you around, Luz." Willow said, waving as her and Gus went to class.
Luz's nervousness was replaced with excitement, she couldn't wait for her first day to begin!
