Luz looked at the video, wondering if she should keep playing it. She has no idea if this could ruin the image she had of her mom... she pressed the spacebar.
"My name is Camila Noceda, formerly Camila Clawthorne, and I have made a fatal mistake." Camila said, "I have worked as a scientist at Blight Industries for the better part of a decade, because I wanted to help people, and being the lead geneticist, it was only a matter of time before we changed the world... sadly Odalia only sees dollar signs."
The camera moved as Camila stood up.
"I am currently pregnant and I fear Odalia will make my second daughter into what she's made my first daughter."
"Second daughter?" Luz said.
The camera moved and zoomed in on a baby, who couldn't be most than 6 months old.
"This is Skara, she was created in a test tube using a piece of my DNA... Odalia calls her Project Lizard. The idea is being able to isolate the regenerative properties of a lizard and combine that with human DNA in order to let humans regrow limbs." Camila said, "She has lizard DNA inside of her, and while dormant due to my creation to keep it at bay... I fear one day she'll become the monster Odalia sees her as. In order to keep her and her future sister safe... I have destroyed as much of this project as I could, locked the rest in my safe, destroyed the codes for it, and I will be leaving Skara in the care of my old friend, Raine Whispers. My husband and I will then be leaving the state to avoid Odalia's wrath... I can't go to the police, Odalia has several of them on her payroll, so my best bet is making sure she never is able to access this project again. Goodbye."
The video stopped, and that's when Luz realized.
"Amity's not the lizard... Skara is..." Luz said, before seemingly trying to understand what she just watched, "I have a sister."
Luz looked at the folder in the safe... if there was anything that would tell her what was used to cure her... it'll be there. She quickly grabbed and opened the folder, speed reading to try and find a way to cure Skara without hurting her or getting more hurt by her.
'Come on, mom. You had to have made an emergency formula in case Odalia DID turn Skara!' Luz thought.
She then found a list of instructions and ingredients.
"Okay, I've got a formula. I just have to mix it up and find Skara before she leaves the sewers." Luz said before she began looking around the lab for ingredients, "... Oh I really hope me failing chemistry in 8th grade doesn't come back to bit me with this."
Luz walked over to one of the cabinets, seeing various old and labeled vials. Luz carefully read the list and made sure to be extremely careful while making it. Right down to the measurements and pouring into a single concoction. She would also want to have extras in case one vial wasn't enough.
"Okay, now it says I have to mix it... Uh... which of these machines will do that?"
Now Luz wishes she paid attention in science class to see what exactly helps mix things together like a blender. She saw something that looks like it should work. It was a centrifuge but Luz didn't know that.
"Okay, bay this will work." Luz said as she gently poured her antidote into three vials and placed them in three slots.
She turned it on. The top of the machine closed and Luz assumed she heard the inside of it spinning, making her wait for it to be done. It gave her a chance to think about everything she learned. Her mother was a scientist that worked for Blight Industries, she had a secret older sister that was a genetic experiment, and she turned into a monster because of one woman's endless lust for money and power. This really threw Luz's life upside down. Even more than getting spider powers from an experiment arachnid from the same company!
'What the fuck is going on with my life?' Luz thought as she sighed longly.
The centrifuge beeped, making Luz realize she's been standing there for a good couple minutes.
"Oh, it's done? Great, now I can cure Skara." Luz said, opening the centrifuge and taking the three antidotes. "Three doses. Better make them count."
Luz put them in her hoodie pocket and fired a web at the ceiling.
"Now, gotta find Skara." Luz said as she pulled herself to the ceiling and crawled.
