Ellery's POV:
"What really happened?!"
"What did you do?"
"Stop it!!!!"
"She'll be fine."
"It wasn't my fault!"
Ellery was hearing bits and pieces as her mind drifted through the black darkness.
*Throb throb throb*
Ugh my face hurts...
Ellery's eyes snapped open and she was in her bed. Her room was huge and her bed was very big! She had a nightstand on both sides of the bed and shelves against the far wall. There was a crystal chandelier on the ceiling and a balcony overlooking a gorgeous lake.
"Ryla I won't ask you again!"
"Fine! I was testing my..... potion!"
Ellery lifted her throbbing head to find Sandor and Ryla fighting. They didn't seem to notice she was awake. Ellery closed her eyes so she could ease drop on the conversation.
No harm in ease dropping!
Right?"What potion was it?" She heard Sandor's squeaky voice ask.
"Uhhhhh...... fireworks?"
"RYLA!!!! You cannot test a firework spell INDOORS! I will be obligated to tell the council and they will NOT be happy!"
"I'm sorry, ok." Ryla said in a tone that made it sound like she rolled her eyes.
"DON'T ROLL YOUR EYES AT ME!!!" Sandor yelled. "Look at what your spell did to Ellery's face!"
WHAT HAPPENED TO MY FACE!?!?!?
Should I open my eyes?
My face IS in a lot of pain....Despite Ellery really wanting to open her eyes she kept them shut. She heard footsteps walking closer to her bed. Then she heard Ryla laughing.
"Ha! Her face is fine......... if you have one eye! Haha."
"This is no laughing matter! Her face.... doesn't.... look fine."
MUST OPEN MY EYES!!!!!
Ellery pretended to wake up and it hurt to open her eyes.
"What happened?" Ellery asked Sandor.
"You might wanna see for yourself...." He said as he walked over and handed her a small mirror. Ellery took a deep breath and looked in the mirror.
"AhHHhHhh!" Ellery shrieked at her reflection. Her right eye had a really bad black eye and her left cheek had a deep scratch that was slowly dripping a little bit of blood. Her forehead was a blackish-bluish color and looked like a really bad bruise.
"What do you have to say?" Sandor asked Ryla.
"I'm sorry." She mumbled.
"WHAT DID YOU DO?!?!?!?" Ellery yelled.
"Well.... I was testing a new potion. A firework MIGHT have hit the ceiling, causing it to fall apart. It happened to hit a ceiling beam that fell and smacked you in the face. You look ridiculous."
Sandor elbowed her. "I mean... I could lie if you want? Your face definitely DOESN'T look like you got into a fight........ and lost.......... badly."
Sandor signed. "Can't you at least TRY to be polite?"
"I suppose. Do you really need to tell the council about this?" Ryla asked him.
"Yes."
"Please don't."
"I have to."
"Ugghhhh."
"Maybe if you at least TRIED not cause trouble then we wouldn't have a problem." Sandor explained.
"Can I get out of bed?" Ellery asked.
"Maybe? I'll go ask Elwin." Sandor said as he walked away. He arrived back in about five minutes with Elwin behind him.
"Hello Ellery!" Elwin exclaimed. "Wow.... That bruise looks even worse than yesterday."
"Yesterday?"
"Yeah, you've been unconscious since yesterday afternoon." Elwin explained. "I think you can get out of bed. The only thing wrong is..... well, your black eye and bruised forehead. And that cheek. It won't stop bleeding."
Ellery touched her left cheek and it burned a little. She looked at her hand and it had a little bit of blood on it.
"Are you ready for Foxfire tomorrow?" Elwin asked her.
"Wait. TOMORROW?! I look terrible." Ellery said truthfully.
"It's really not THAT bad." Elwin assured her.
Yeah, that's a lie.
I'm going to be SOOOO embarrassed tomorrow...
It's all Ryla's fault!!!
Why does she not have a scratch on her face!?Soon enough it was time for bed and Ellery went to sleep, having terrible nightmares about going to Foxfire.
"Ellery!!! Wake up!!!!" Her mom called.
"Ughh... I'm awake!" Ellery shouted back as she slowly got out of bed. Ellery walked to the closet and put on her level one uniform.
Here we go again...
Ellery walked to her mirror and gasped. Her face somehow looked even worse..... it was basically a purpleish-blackish-blueish color. She signed and went to her rooms bathroom. She put her hair in a side ponytail and attempted to put on some makeup to cover her forehead. She put on a little bit of blush to cover up her cheeks and some skin tone eyeshadow on her forehead.
"I look a little bit better!" Ellery told herself as she walked out of her room.
"Hi Ellery." Her mom said from the kitchen table. "I made riffle-ruffs!"
Ellery ran over to the table and took a big bite of the delicious treat. "Where's Ryla?" Ellery asked in between bites.
"She said something about wanting to get to Foxfire early." Her mom explained. "She left about thirty minutes ago."
Ellery quickly finished her breakfast and leaped to Foxfire.
