The next morning, Ann and Richard made their way to Mr. Weber's office, located in one of Berlin's sleek, modern business districts.
Ann led the way, her posture confident yet open, a reflection of her readiness to engage with the challenges ahead.
Mr. Weber's assistant greeted them with a professional smile. "Mr. Weber is expecting you. Please, right this way."
They were ushered into a spacious conference room where Mr. Weber stood waiting, his eyes twinkling with a kind of gentle intelligence.
"Richard, it's been a long time," Mr. Weber said, extending his hand. "How are you doing Ann? Please, have a seat."
Richard shook Mr. Weber's hand firmly. "Thank you, Mr. Weber. It's a pleasure to meet you after so long."
Once everyone was seated, Mr. Weber wasted no time. "I'm sure you're all aware of how crucial our upcoming meeting with Mr. Hoffman is," he began.
Ann nodded. "We understand the stakes, Mr. Weber. We're ready to hear what you have planned."
Mr. Weber smiled, pleased with her direct approach. "Good. Hoffman will be introducing us to the biggest investor for our project. This meeting isn't just a formality — it's the key player for the success of our upcoming projects."
Richard leaned forward; his expression serious. "We've been preparing for a long time."
Mr. Weber nodded, his expression becoming more animated. "Excellent. Hoffman's investment group is keen on innovation and sustainability. They want to see that we're not just in this for short-term gains but are planning to lead the market in these areas."
Ann, picking up on the strategic importance, added, "Our proposal integrates those elements. We believe this will align perfectly with Hoffman's vision and his investors' criteria."
"That's exactly what I want to hear," Mr. Weber responded. "Remember, this investor is our gateway to not just funding but also to expanding our influence and resources. A successful partnership could mean accelerating our projects by several years."
Richard asked, "Is there anything specific we should emphasize in our presentation to resonate more strongly with Hoffman and the investors?"
Mr. Weber thought for a moment. "Focus on scalability and long-term vision. They should feel that investing with us is investing in the future. Your track record with previous projects will be a strong point — highlight that."
As the meeting drew to a close, Mr. Weber stood up, signaling the end of the discussion. "I have every confidence in you two," he said warmly. "This is an opportunity to show what we're made of. Let's make sure we leave a lasting impression."
They all stood, energized by the meeting's outcomes and the clear direction they had received. Handshakes were exchanged, and Mr. Weber's final nod was one of approval and encouragement.
"Thank you, Mr. Weber. We won't let you down," Ann promised, her voice steady and sure.
As they left the building, the early morning light had given way to a bright, clear day. Ann and Richard felt the weight of the upcoming meeting but also the thrill of the challenge.

Ann and Richard were lounging comfortably in Ann's living room, the evening light casting a warm glow over the space. Ann was flipping through a magazine, while Richard was going through some paperwork.
Ann set her magazine down on the coffee table, her mind on the tasks ahead. "I'm planning to clear up the other room for you today, Richie," she said, glancing towards the closed door down the hall. "There's some stuff I need to move, but then you can have that room all to yourself."
Richard looked up, a grateful smile on his face. "Thanks, Annie. Do you need any help with that?"
"No, it's good," Ann replied, shaking her head slightly. "I've got it covered."
Richard hesitated for a moment, then asked, "Are you sure you're not coming with us?"
"No, I'll just let Lucas go with you. He knows what to look out for, and honestly, I could use a day to catch up on some work here."
Richard raised an eyebrow, his tone teasing. "So... your personal assistant Lucas, huh? Are you sure he's just a friend? Because the way he looks at you, it says otherwise."
Ann laughed, a light, airy sound that filled the room. "It's kind of obvious, isn't it? He likes me. But there's nothing between us. Lucas has just been a really good friend. And yes, an amazing assistant."
"We hang out almost all the time," she admitted, "and it was because of him that I settled so fast in Germany. He helped me a lot with everything, you know? He's been a great support."
Richard nodded, understanding the nuances of human connections more than Ann realized. "I'm glad someone's ben around you while I wasn't."
Ann nodded, her thoughts drifting momentarily. "He has. And I'm thankful for it."
Just then, the doorbell rang, slicing through the quiet of the apartment.
Richard stood up, a playful glint in his eye. "Okay, then I'm off with Mr. Good Friend and Great Assistant," he joked, picking up his jacket.
Ann's laughter followed him to the door. "Have fun, you two!"
She watched as Richard left, then turned her attention to the other room. She opened the door, revealing a space that was slightly messy, filled with boxes and various items that needed organizing.
Alone now, Ann rolled up her sleeves, ready to tackle the mess. She started sorting through the boxes, each item bringing back memories from her move to Germany. Books, papers, little knick-knacks she hadn't found a place for yet – all were part of her journey here.
As she organized, Ann's mind wandered back to her conversation with Richard. Lucas's feelings for her, her refusal to dive into anything romantic, her ongoing heartache over Beth – it was all a lot to handle. Yet, here, in the quiet of her apartment, she felt a sense of peace.
Ann was almost done organizing the room when she stumbled upon a book tucked away under a stack of her notebooks. It was an old, thick journal, its cover worn from time but still holding the faint scent of lavender. For a moment, Ann couldn't breathe—she recognized it instantly. It was Beth's journal, a piece of her past she had inadvertently brought with her to Germany but had never opened.
Her hands trembled as she picked it up, her heart pounding against her chest. The journal felt heavy, laden with words and memories she wasn't sure she was ready to confront. Ann sat down slowly, placing the journal in front of her on the newly cleared desk.
With trembling hands, she brushed her fingers over the cover, her mind awash with images of Beth—her smile, her laugh, the way she'd look at Ann with so much love. The flood of memories was almost too much to bear.
Ann opened the journal, her breath hitching as she saw Beth's neat, familiar handwriting. But as she was about to read, a wave of pain and regret washed over her. "Not again, Ann," she whispered to herself, shaking her head as if to dispel the overwhelming emotions.
She quickly closed the journal, pushing it away. She stood up, her resolve hardening. She couldn't let herself drown in the past—not when she had come so far. With a deep, steady breath, she returned to cleaning the room, her movements brisk and a bit more forceful than before.
