Isn't it quite the style for these two to be in a rut? Hylia herself is sighing, wishing the two could be more transparent and less dramatic. However, these lovely people just don't quite know how to trust fully. That's where we find Link, at his home, alone. It's always when everything is new that it feels wonderful, but there is always something, or someone, right there at the surface waiting to break through and cause disaster. Can you guess what happened now?
He was staring up at the ceiling of his house. He didn't cry, he didn't scream, he didn't do anything. He just stayed there, wanting nothing more than to fall asleep and hope it was all a bad dream.
How had he even gotten here? He swore he did everything right. It wasn't his fault that Ilia went and did what she had. It wasn't like he pushed her to do it, it wasn't like he led her on. Y/n shouldn't have blamed him.
'Link, I'm just really tired of trusting people that shouldn't be trusted.'
How could he not be trusted? After the whole situation resolved itself in the beginning of their friendship, he didn't lie to her or keep things from her. He hadn't gone behind her back.
'The fact that you can't see what you did wrong says a lot.'
What had he done wrong? He couldn't control Ilia.
'Well, then, maybe you should've gone off with her! If she gets you so much and never treats you this way then maybe you shouldn't have chased me down that day.'
That day. The day he chased her down Hyrule just wanting to make things right between them. The day when all he could think of was fixing their relationship so he wouldn't lose his best friend. Now, they had been in such a good spot. They both had confessed their feelings for each other and were heading towards possibly ending up together. It had been just over a month since then. However, all that went in the gutter after that night.
Then it hit him. He had lied to her, he had kept things from her, and he did go behind her back. You see, the entire time they had been traveling around Hyrule, Ilia had sent him letters begging him to come home and take a break. He'd never responded because he didn't want to go back. It got to the point where Ilia had sent a letter claiming she had gotten sick. Link, obviously worried, told Y/n they had to go home. He didn't tell her why because he didn't want to worry her until he knew what was going on. After all, Ilia and Y/n were friendly with each other. The second they got into Ordon, Link left her in front of his house while he ran off to Ilia's. She hadn't even gotten off her horse by the time he ran off. All he said was he needed to speak to Rusl and the Mayor. She thought nothing of it at first, but then when he didn't come back home that night she started to wonder what was going on. She had slipped on her boots and left the house with the intention of seeing Rusl. She'd most likely see Link there and ask him what happened. However, she never made it past the Ordon entrance after Link's house.
She saw them that night, together by the lake. She had found a couple of Ilia's letters, earlier, and went to ask Link what was going on and if Ilia was okay. It seemed completely innocent until Ilia grabbed Links's hand and started to confess her feelings for him. Y/n felt her stomach drop and she felt like throwing up when she saw Ilia kiss him. Without even thinking, she ran back to the house, got on her horse, and took off. She had no particular destination, she just wanted to clear her mind for the night before she blew up at Link.
Link gently pushed Ilia back. She knew why he was rejecting her.
'Y/n.'
He nodded.
'What is it about her? Is it just because she's this new thing in your life?'
He gave her a questioning look.
'What? Is it the adventuring? The travels? Come on, you barely know her! I'm your best friend!' He finally opened his mouth and said something to question her further. 'What is your problem? I thought you two were friends!'
'Oh, please! As if I could be friends with her after finding out she's basically in love with you!'
'What? She's in love with me?' He couldn't stop the smile that came upon his face. Ilia frowned.
'Trust me, she's not right for you. You'll find that out soon enough.' Ilia stormed off after that.
The next morning, Link was looking for Y/n. He assumed she'd gone and spent the night with Rusl to spend time with her family. She had ridden back into the village early that morning to say goodbye to Rusl. She left her horse at Link's and walked to her uncles house.
'Really? Well, I'm gonna miss you, kiddo.'
'I'll miss you guys, too. But, I figure it's time to part ways for a bit and just find what I'm missing on my own. If I don't, I'll come back and just keep up the shop.'
'You'll find what you're missing, sweetie. Just be safe, okay?' Y/n smiled and hugged her aunt and uncle. She said goodbye to the kids and then made her way out. When she was starting to head to Link's house to get to her horse, Ilia made her way over.
