There was a still in time when she looked into his eyes. That brilliant blue she could lose herself in. She may have forgotten him but how could she ever forget those wonderful eyes? She saw them in her dreams, in her lost thoughts, and her heart could never forget them.

She kept her hand on his cheek, the warmth seeping into her palm and into her veins. He was a comfort; how could she hate or mistrust this man who seemed to be unconditionally in love with her?

When she felt herself leaning into him, when she felt an invisible force pushing her into him, she felt a sharp pain in her chest. She inhaled sharply, her hand leaving him and clutching the fabric of her top. She shut her eyes tight and groaned as she tried to breathe through the pain. Link put his hands on her waist to make sure she didn't lean over and fall, his own heart about to burst out of his chest. After a minute of trying to figure out what was wrong, she let out a sigh of relief. It was heavy, mingled with a bit of happiness. "Oh, thank Hylia." Link felt emotional whiplash from being worried to being confused.

"Your eyes, Link...they're pretty." Her voice held no uncertainty, no unfamiliarity. She kept her eyes locked with his as her mind clicked into place. Her face was filled with knowing. She knew him. Link's face was about as red as it could get. His heart stuttered at her simple confession, but he smiled so wide that his cheeks ached. He threw his arms around her and enveloped her in the tightest embrace. 'Seriously? Is this a cosmic joke? How could she possibly shift between knowing me, forgetting me, and back to knowing me?'

Despite his questions, he took what he could get. This must've been an effect of the curse going wrong. Either way, Link felt as if even the goddesses were laughing at him, amused at the constant back and forth. 'This better be it.'

"Link?" He hummed. "You're crushing me a bit." He quickly removed himself from her, and she laughed softly. "I'm sorry." She mumbled, feeling oddly insecure.
"You shouldn't be apologizing to me. I should apologize to you."
"Link, you didn't do anyth-"
"I'm supposed to protect you. I should never have left your side that day in Kakariko."
"You couldn't have known what would happen."
"I should've been cautious. I knew something strange was happening. When I left you there, I opened the door to a mountain of bad outcomes. I'm sorry." She felt guilty for his pain. He could never have anticipated anything that occurred in the last couple of months. "It doesn't matter now. I'm here, safe, and I remember you."
"Do you?" She tilted her head and frowned.

"What do you remember about us?" She took a moment to ponder. "I know we're friends, we're very close." Now, Link was frowning. 'Back to friends, then.'

"So close, you kissed me when we went to see where the Mirror used to be and went along with my fake dating plan just so you could keep kissing me." A teasing smile was plastered on her face as Link groaned in embarrassment, causing her to laugh. "I remember you, Link. Truly." She embraced him once more, ignoring the flare of pain she felt in her chest. It hurt, but it was bearable. She'd bear it to be with him. "I'm glad to be hearing you speak again. You went quiet on me."
"I didn't know what to say. I felt I had nothing to say if it wasn't a solution on how to help you." She pulled back to look at his disappointed face. "Link. You were exceptional. I don't know anyone else who would've gone through what you did for me. I didn't think anyone would ever care for me the way you do."

Despite the sweet words she said to him, Link still felt weak. He still felt incredibly guilty and angry. What had he done to deserve this? What had she done? The universe had looked down on them and decided to attempt to tear them apart. Every time they came back to each other, another stunt was pulled. When would it end? Was this the reason for all of it?

Was it the heavens punishing them for their past lives? Was it just the maliciousness in the world? "Do you remember any of the times I tried to get you to remember me?"
"Strangely, no."
