The sun was beating down harshly as the pair of adventurers walked through the desert. They refused to stop, even for a minute, wanting to get to the mirror chamber as quickly as possible. They had to pack an extra canteen with water and some particularly watery fruits in an attempt to stay somewhat comfortable in the blistering heat.
The annoying moldorms shot out from the sand and made their attempts to harm the two, but they were quick to slice at them with their swords. They decided to make a run for the rest of the way, opting to be out of breath instead of dealing with the pesky creatures. Reaching the bulbin camp, they were pleased to see it deserted. They still kept their guard up and a hand on their sword, in Link's case, as they made their way through. "Hylia, it is boiling." Y/n said as they walked into a hut and she plopped herself down on a log covered with a boar skin. Link sat beside her and offered her a couple of apples, which she accepted gratefully. Link was looking back on his memories there as they sat there, eating and drinking their water. He didn't think he'd ever come back here.
Y/n stood up and walked around the large hut, wondering why the bulbins were nowhere to be found. 'Not that I want them around. It's just a little...odd.' She came upon a large axe. "I was almost killed by that." She whipped her head to look at him, bewildered. "What?"
"Yeah, back when I first came here, the leader of the bulbins swung that around trying to kill me. He, obviously, was not successful." She laughed softly at that as she ran her fingers along the base of the axe. "It's ugly as shit."
"Like they are." They both laughed a bit. Link was beside her, somewhat behind her. When she stood up straight, her back hit his chest. A quiet gasp escaped her lips and she tried her best to make sure he couldn't see her face which was currently dusted a light pink. However, it didn't matter because the tips of her ears were going red, something he noticed. He moved away from her and she felt herself finally breathe. When he was back in the spot next to her, he handed her the canteen she was previously drinking from. She mumbled a 'thank you' and took small sips out of it in an attempt to calm herself. 'Thank Hylia he just assumed I was hot...'
"We should keep on, it's hot now but it gets cold at night." Y/n nodded and they continued on through the rest of the encampment. Reaching the temple, it was a breeze to navigate through as Link knew the way and there were no enemies in sight. Again, this raised a couple of red flags in Y/n's mind, but she pushed them aside and was grateful instead for their absence. Once they exited the temple and were walking up to the Mirror Chamber, something caught Y/n's eye.
She noticed a cloak. It was black with gold trim and the Triforce symbol sewn into the very middle of the hood. She went to stop Link to ask about it, ask if it was left there by someone but he had already moved ahead. With a short exhale, she picked it up. It was made from lovely black velvet and the stitching was neat. The gold trim was thin but enough to be noticed immediately. What took her eye was the Triforce. It was stitched in red. She heard Link call out for her. She approached him and he raised an eyebrow at the article of clothing in her hand. "I found it lying on the floor. Do you recognize it?" He took it in his hands and looked over it.
"No, but it's very well made." He then focused his attention on the hood. "I don't know anyone who would have something this nice other than the Royal family. But the Triforce...it would never be stitched on here. Much less in red." She nodded, thoughtfully. He folded it and placed it down while they walked to where the Mirror of Twilight once resided. Y/n walked up to it and trailed her fingers along the bare frame. "Do you miss her? Your companion?" He nodded with a small smile. "She sounds fascinating from what you told me. Midna...that's a beautiful name. The Twilight Princess..."
Link wasn't paying much attention as he seemed to space out when he looked at Y/n. She had a gentle smile and admired the mirror frame. He heard her words faintly, he knew she was wondering what the mirror itself looked like. She looked at him, her smile beaming. As she walked up to him, he could feel his heart start to race. It was like a dream, her steps graceful and slow. Her voice sounded distant but angelic. "Link?" She placed her hand on his shoulder, her face tilted upwards and her eyes staring into his. She looked a bit worried as he hadn't responded in more than 10 minutes and he looked as if he was distracted. 'Say something.' His mind was yelling at him to speak.
He was distracted, though. Everything about the woman in front of him was taking over his senses. Like a sweet poison flowing through his veins and entering his mind and heart. He felt his arm move and suddenly his hand was holding the side of her face. She liked the warmth of his hand, it offered a nice feeling in the new coolness of the night that had begun. The moon was high in the sky and the stars were shining. He felt himself leaning into her, his other hand moving to hold her. Once he adjusted his arm comfortably across her waist, he took a moment to take in her expression. She was nervous but she looked entirely safe. There was no doubt in her eyes and he slowly leaned in completely. When his lips touched hers softly, he felt her other hand go to hold his arm that was around her waist. Their kiss lasted until they both separated for air. For once, he wasn't blushing. He just felt peaceful, standing in the moonlight with her in his arms. She was in shock but happy.
"I like you. I have for a while. I know I'm an idiot most of the time and I tend to upset you. I know I might not be the one for you, but I felt the need to tell you because I really don't think I can hold it in anymore. I can't hold in how much I admire you, how much I adore you. How you captivate me and put me in some kind of trance with your smile." She was quiet, something that didn't suit her quite as well as it did for Link. His concern grew at this. "I'm sorry if that was too much." He released her and took a step back. Though she was quiet, she still had a smile on her face. "I like you, Link. I've been waiting for a good time to tell you, too. Guess you beat me to it." Link couldn't explain how overjoyed he felt at her words. They stayed there for a while, talking and admiring the night sky before the cold caught up to them and they made their way out to avoid the heat that would come soon.
Y/n had thrown on the cloak to help reduce her shivering. When she put it on, however, she had a weird feeling in her stomach. Like something was going to happen. She just pushed it aside and followed Link out, hand in hand. Link, also, felt a strange feeling when he saw her in it. He figured it was just due to the strange Triforce on the hood.
If either of them had looked off to the side, if they had felt a bit more apprehensive about the strange cloak, they would have noticed the two other individuals off the side in the shadows wearing cloaks identical to the one Y/n had on.
And maybe they would have noticed the sinister smile they each had and how they eyed Link, one of them holding a familiar crystal.
