Link?

Traveling through Hyrule looking for Link with a wolf was not something Y/n anticipated. However, it was the current situation. Two days had passed since his disappearance and she still had no leads. How can someone just vanish? Her stomach was twisted with worry and she truly didn't know how to process her emotions.

They were currently with her parents. You can imagine her parent's reaction to their daughter coming home to them not with a nice hero at her side but rather a beast. Her mom had passed out in her father's arms. Once the moment passed, they gave him some raw meat to eat and some fresh water. "How can he just 'poof' disappear?"

"I don't know. That's what is worrying me so much. I have no clue what happened. All I know is what I told you."

"You say he was acting weird since before you went to that light spirit?"
"Yes. Actually, it started the morning we left." Link was listening to the conversation. He was surprised she had noticed his behavior since the beginning. "Darling, are you sure he didn't just up and leave?" My mother looked at me with a sorry look in her eyes. Link, on the other side of the room, snorted in disbelief. Y/n glanced at him with a raised eyebrow before looking to her mother. "He wouldn't do that. Thankfully, he's not like me." Her father shook his head.
"Yeah, he doesn't seem like the type."

"Like I said, he yelled. Like he was in pain. Something happened."
"Do you think there's maybe someone you can ask about this?"
"Who? No one else would know anything more than I do."
"Not even anyone from Ordon?"
"I don't think so. The only connection I can make was once he mentioned he was with someone when he defeated the Twilight."
"So, why not them?"
"He said it's not possible to contact them anymore. Though, I'm not sure why."
"What about the Princess?"
"The Princess? She'd never speak to me."
"She might if she knew the Hero was missing."

She thought about it for a minute. Her father's words held truth to them. Hyrule's Hero was missing, which had to be urgent and might just be enough to get an audience with the Princess. "Maybe. I'll have to try."

"Darling, you sure you can trust that?" She motioned to Link. "Yes. If he wanted to hurt me, he would've done it by now."
"It's a boy?"
"I'm assuming." Her dad looked at him. He whistled for him to come over. Once Link had reached him, her dad put out his hands. Link got onto his hind legs and rested his paws on her dad's hands. "Yeah, a boy." Y/n snickered a little and Link just walked off from them, spun a couple of times, and laid down. "Well, if you trust him, he can sleep in here."
"He'll sleep outside." Link let out an offended huff and shifted himself so his back was to them. "Next time, don't eat my dinner." Link rolled his eyes without them seeing. Yesterday, Y/n was about to catch a particularly fat wild boar who had charged and hit her on purpose multiple times the day before. However, Link had caught it first and proceeded to devour it. Y/n ate fruit that night.

"Darling, why don't you help me with dinner? Hena owes me some fish, you mind going to get them?"
"You got it." She walked to the door and Link followed her out. "That boy she was with is the same way. Two little lost puppies following her around." Her dad laughed.

After getting the fish she needed, they walked back to the house. "You stay out here. I'm gonna bring you some food then you gotta sleep." She had a hand on her hip as she spoke to him. He snorted and walked to sleep under some shade. "Never in my life would I have thought a wolf would be taking orders from me." She pushed open the door and gave her mom the fish. She helped her mom cook some rice and whatever else she needed, then sat down for dinner.

"Oh, wait. Let me feed Wolfy."
"Wolfy?"
"Yeah, he needed a name."
"That's the best you came up with?"
"Aren't I creative?" She grabbed the last two pieces of raw fish and took it out to him. "Here you go, sweet boy." Link looked at her and if he could blush, he would've. She had never said something like that to him. Granted, she did think she was speaking to an animal. She walked back into the house. Link ate his fish slowly as he attempted to come up with an idea on how to transform back when another thought popped into his head. How would he explain the wolf's disappearance? He could tell Y/n was growing a bit attached to his wolf form. She let him sleep in her lap when they would stop to rest and would even let him curl up next to her when she slept. Another strange vanishment of someone she cared about might destroy her. How she hadn't made the connection between Link and the wolf was beyond him. The clingy behavior, the same blue eyes, the earring? 'She doesn't always notice things.' He remembered the conversation he had with her horse who was currently at Castle Town. He walked over to the hammocks and laid down. 'If she wanted to, she would've figured it out by now. She's just more worried that you're dead, not a wolf.' He recalled her horse's words.

The next morning, she gathered her things to head back to Castle Town. She had sent in a letter to the Royal Family about requesting an audience due to an emergency concerning Link. She had gotten no response about it, but she went anyway. She had to do something. Link, on the other hand, was currently sitting down, not budging an inch. He knew the Princess would recognize him and he didn't want Y/n to know it was him. "Come on, wolfy." She grunted with each word trying to push him off his butt. With a yelp, she fell over when he suddenly stood up. She could see the amusement in his eyes. "Come on, we gotta go. I would like to get there before night." Reluctantly, Link followed her. "I would never have thought a wolf could have such an attitude."

Reaching Castle Town, Y/n hadn't thought about how the citizens would react to a beast within its walls. The minute they walked in, guards surrounded Link and the people cowered at the sight of him. He huffed, annoyed. Y/n tried to reason with them and told them he was harmless but they wouldn't hear it. Sighing, she walked out with him. "You think you can make it into the Castle?" She patted his head and walked back. He still remembered how to get in when he went with Midna.

"Yes, they received your letter. However, they're busy and an audience with some random girl is not high on their priority list."

"You don't understand. I need to speak with Princess Zelda."
"Look, kid, it ain't happening."
"Seriously, I'm gonn-" A separate guard cut her off.
"The Princess has requested you speak to her in the drawing room." She shot the guard a smug look before following the new one up to the drawing room where Princess Zelda was sitting at a large desk, with various papers and books in front of her. She stood when she heard the door open. "The girl, Y/n, your Majesty." The guard walked off and Y/n curtsied as best as she could. Princess Zelda gave a small bow of her head. "From your letter, you sounded very concerned about Link."

"Yes, I am. He disappeared."
"Disappeared? How is that possible?"
"I'm not sure, Princess Zelda. I've been searching for him to no avail. This is my last resort. From his stories, he told me he came to you when the Twilight first descended."
"Yes, he did. However, not quite the way you might think." She motioned for Y/n to follow her. They left the room and made their way through the castle, down long corridors into one of the tallest towers. "It was here that Zant kept me locked away. Here, I met Link." The scratching of nails sounded out in the room and Y/n turned to the open door. She put an arm out, shielding the Princess. With her hand grasping the hilt of her sword, ready to attack the intruder, she called out for them to appear.

Her beast companion peeked in. She let out a sigh of relief and sheathed her sword. She turned to the Princess. "Princess, I promise he means no harm. He's been aiding me in my search for the Hero." Zelda raised her eyebrows. "Link?" She looked past Y/n. "Huh?"

The Princess saw Link shake his head. She gave Y/n a beautifully gentle smile. "Yes, I can see that. Forgive me, I nearly expected to see the Hero himself. This beast came to me when the Twilight descended, he has a connection to the Hero. He will aid you well. I'm sorry, though, I cannot help you. I have no information on how to help retrieve Link." The Princess did not utter a single lie, she spoke the truth, however vague it was. "I see. Well, thank you, Princess Zelda." She bowed to the Princess. "There's no need for that kind of formality, Y/n. You and the Hero seem close, any friend of his is a friend of mine. I do hope you'll come and inform me of any leads." Y/n nodded and excused herself.

Walking out, she glanced back and saw Zelda looking at her beast very fondly. Confusion set into her features at the look but she brushed it off and left. She didn't wait for her beast, seeing as he had to sneak out.

"Link, how ever did you manage to revert back to this form? I nearly revealed you to your lovely companion. She's very sweet. I hope you can find some answers on how to change back. It may do you some good to seek counsel in all the light spirits in Hyrule. One of them must have some semblance of a solution." Link gave a nod and proceeded to walk out until the Princess said something else to him. Taking her words into consideration, he continued on to sneak his way back out to meet Y/n. He found her outside the West Gate. "Okay, I have no clue where to go from here. How is it that no one knows anything?" She buried her face in her hands.

He bumped his head into her leg in an attempt to comfort her. He wished he could speak to her and tell her it was him, tell her he's been with her the whole time, tell her he's okay. "I need to calm down. Crying will do me no good." She sniffled and wiped her face clean. With an exhale, she looked down at the beast. "You got any ideas?" His ears perked up and he led her in the direction of Lake Hylia.
