Back in Ordon

He walked to Epona, slowly. He had just talked about not wanting to go back to Ordon and here he is, getting ready to go back to chase after y/n. As much as he didn't want to go back right now, he couldn't risk leaving things like this with her. He had to find her and set it right. He needed to tell her. She meant a lot to him. She was his best friend.

As he rode back to Ordon, he let Epona take it slow. While he was trying to get there to see her, he wasn't in a rush to go back. He knew she'd be there for a while. He sighed and looked out around Hyrule Field. It was night right now and the moon and stars were reflected along the lake. It looked mesmerizing. It reminded him of her. "I really messed up with her, didn't I?" Epona huffed at him. He laughed knowing that, if he could still understand what she was saying, she'd be agreeing with him. He thought back to when he was with Midna. Sure, she could be a bit mean and bossy, but she was a good friend. He hadn't had a friend like that in a while. A friend who would sacrifice themselves for others.

Until he met y/n. She helped whoever she could. He would see people go to her for help because they didn't have any money. She would help them as much as she could out of the kindness of her heart. She never asked for money back or any favors. She just wanted them to get what they needed. It was strange that she seemed to always get her heart broken. Who could hurt her? Why would they? She's a sweet soul, why would you want to hurt her? Then, he thought back to his own mistakes. He didn't mean to hurt her. He groaned. 'I guess it doesn't matter. I didn't intend to hurt her and I did.'

By the time he rode into Ordon, the sun was rising. He put Epona in her space and headed up to his house. He walked up to the door and noticed a note attached to it. 'For whenever you come back, please come by and see my father and I. We have something to discuss with you. -Ilia.' A confused look came onto his face as he realized this was probably put on there recently as the paper didn't look worn. He walked into his house, set his things down, and stretched. He let out a big sigh and proceeded to make himself something to eat before he set out to see if she was in the village.

As he ate, he was deep in thought. 'What if she doesn't want to talk to me? What if she's not even here and I have no idea where her hometown is?' His thoughts put him into a sour mood as he cleaned up after himself and left his house. He walked to the Mayor's house and knocked. Ilia swung the door open and gave him a stern look. His confusion only grew. What was going on? "Link. Come in, please." He stepped inside as she closed the door and Bo gave him a firm handshake. "Sorry about this, she's pretty adamant on a talk."
"Father, it's necessary. I will not have him getting himself into something he doesn't understand."
"Right...well. Link. An old friend came into town yesterday night. She was very distressed. Now, I'm not accusing you of anything but-"
"What did you do, Link?"
He turned to meet Ilia's questioning stare. He shrugged. She shook her head at him and put a hand on his shoulder. "She's very dear to us. She came into town late at night. I caught her as I woke up abruptly to the sound of her riding in and knocking on Rusl's door."

'Rusl is her uncle? I didn't know he had any other family. Is she actually talking about y/n?' She led Link to the window and pointed out a girl. She had her back turned but he recognized her. As creepy as it was, he always watched her walk off so he knew what she looked like turned around. He'd watch her leave, wishing she'd turn back and stay with him. "I know you don't know her very well...but I overheard her tell Rusl she fought with a friend. And with you." She turned to him again with her hands on her hips. "Ilia, let him explain what's going on. You only heard bits and pieces of the conversation"
"Nothing happened. It was just a...miscommunication." He muttered out.

"Well, that miscommunication led her to leave her work and rush here. You better fix this, Link!" She huffed and left the house. Link just stared at the door in shock. "She's pretty upset about this. She and y/n aren't close but she does care for her. Just talk to her, I'm sure it'll work itself out." With that, Link left and went over to y/n. His hands were shaking. He couldn't tell if it was nervousness for fear of an argument or because she gave him butterflies. "Y/n." She turned around and her eyes widened a bit.

"Link."
"Hi."
"So, Ordon is your home?"
"Yeah...I didn't know you had family here."
"Oh, yeah, I never did tell you, did I?"
"Look, I came here to talk to you."
"About?"
"I wanted to say that I'm..." He trailed off as she narrowed her eyes at him. "I'm sorry."
"For?"
"For just leaving. You're right, I do take off. But it's not anything malicious or something."
"So? What is it then?"
"It's...I just leave because I'm keeping you. I'm sure you have other things to do."
"I do. But that doesn't mean I wouldn't like your company."
"I know. I'm sorry. I like being around you and I don't want you to get sick of me. I should've told you that before. I just needed to find the courage to."
"Well, thank you for the apology. Goodbye." She began to walk off past him and Link's face went red and a shocked look appeared on him as he went to follow her. "You're leaving?"
"Yes. I have things to do."
"I thought you were visiting."
"I am. That doesn't mean I don't help out."
"Can I help you?"
"No."
"Please?"
"No. Goodbye, Link."
She walked past him and he watched as she left. He stood there thinking for a minute. She was still upset at him. He decided to go home to think about what to do. As he ran back to his house, he didn't notice Y/n look back with a smile on her face. 'He came here to look for me just to apologize...'

He settled in and began to wonder how exactly he could get back into her good graces. "I apologized...maybe I could buy her something? Or take her out for a picnic or for a walk at night?" He wondered aloud before it hit him. 'Maybe, I should go to her and apologize as her other friend. She's still mad at that part of me, too.' Of course, Link didn't think about how suspicious it would be for them to both appear to her on the same day. He just wanted things to be okay with them again so he could enjoy her company. He noticed how he felt better when she was around. She understood him and never expected a thing from him, just some conversation. He dug through his bag and took out his cloak. He left his house and went to the spring and threw his cloak on.

He walked back into the village and sat by the lake. As he looked at the reflection of the moon on the water, he heard footsteps behind him. "And how did you find me? Or are you just fond of Ordon?"
"I heard from someone you were here."
"Well, here I am."
"I'm sorry." He stood up and walked to her. "You deserve to know who I am. I know that. I just don't want you to hate me."
"Why would I hate you?"
"I feel like you're going to be disappointed when you see who I am."
"I couldn't be. You're the most important person to me and the person I trust the most."
"That's the thing. You trust me and you've told me things you've never told anyone else. I think when you find out who I am, you won't want to speak to me again."
"We won't know how I'll feel until that moment comes."
"I care for you." He reached out his hand and grabbed hers. A warm feeling came across his chest and she smiled. "I care for you, too."
"I promise that I will tell you who I am soon. I just need to find the courage to do that."

She felt a pang in her chest. 'Didn't Link say something like that? No...that's not possible.' She stared at his hooded face trying to her hardest to see anything and noticed his lips. 'Even their lips look the same...' Link's face went red as he noticed she was staring. "What?"
"Nothing, I just...nothing. I have to go." She ripped her hand out of his and rushed off. He was confused as she left but then walked back to the spring. As he walked out of the village, she rushed to hide behind a tree. She proceeded to follow him She followed silently and hid behind the wall as he walked into the spring. He sat down and looked at the water. She went to the small opening and crawled through to get a better view of him.

Once she reached the other end, she stayed far enough back so that he wouldn't see her and made sure to stay as quiet as possible. She waited to see if he would take off the hood. 'There's no way it's Link. It just can't be.' As he reached for his hood, her breath caught in her throat.

Then, he lowered his hands. Sighing, he stood up and walked out of the spring. She crawled out of the opening and into the spring and then, again, followed him. She watched as he walked to Link's house and stood next to Epona. He walked to stand next to her where no one could see him. She waited impatiently. Then, when he came back around his cloak was off.

And she saw Link.
