Link was currently sitting in the Spring. Y/n didn't seem to feel safe around him so he left to give her some comfort.
"I warned you to give up." He was on his feet in a second, the Master Sword in his hand. The Shadow scoffed amusingly at him.
"This is your fault. See, I needed something to make sure even if she got away, she wouldn't come back to you. That she'd still be mine, in a way." Link still said nothing as his mind couldn't comprehend how he could do that.
"You're not that bright, are you? I put a simple little...spell on her. I knew you would kiss her. You're a cliche. When you did, those memories changed."
"When I kissed her, it reversed what you did that day in Kakariko."
"It did. Only for a moment, though. And not properly. Didn't you notice her call you 'hero?" He had, he thought it was odd. Was that because she only remembered him as Link the Hero? Not as Link her friend?
"The rest of that night, she forgot you. You're a foggy memory to her now, she has no clue who you are. You messed with someone's delicate mind. She knows me, though." A smug smile spread across his face. Realization came across Link's face, the paper was the Shadow's doing, he was speaking to him.
"Amazing what a little dark magic can do. You shouldn't have taken her from me. I told you that you'd lose her, again." Link's jaw clenched and his hand gripped his sword to tightly, his knuckles were a ghostly white.
"If you hadn't kissed her, maybe she would've learned to trust you. Maybe I would've felt some pity and taken that magic off her. But you had to be the typical, naive, cliche hero."
Link threateningly pushed the Master Sword into the Shadow's neck.
"Not the first time you've threatened me with death and it won't be the last, Hero. Have fun trying to get her back now, it'll only get worse from here." He disappeared after his last word. The spot he stood in left the imprint of his boots. There was a layer of black powder over it and Link curiously stepped over to it. He stood squarely in the spot and then stepped back. There was no difference in the imprint, they were exactly the same. 'How can he possibly look like me? Like them? It's not possible.'
Link's jaw clenched and he huffed as he turned to leave. The black powder seemed to move from its spot, trailing slowly after Link. He hadn't noticed as his mind was occupied with possible ways to retrieve Y/n's memory.
Link made his way up to his house and found her sleeping soundly. Her eyes were puffy and the dried marks on her face were unmistakable for tears. The black powder slowly made its way around Link, slithering up the covers she had over her. Link, too focused on her pained face, sighed and then looked down at his boots. A speck of the powder remained. He raised a brow and leaned down to brush it off when it moved on its own accord. He gasped and took a step back, nearly ready to run back to the spot it came from to see if it remained but stopped when he saw it rush to Y/n.
The rest of the powder had already laid itself out like a veil on her face. It swirled gently like a slowed whirlpool along her sad countenance. He reached out and grabbed her face and tried to brush it off. It recoiled as if disgusted by his touch.
It snaked down her face, avoiding his hands, along her neck to her chest before seeping into the area above-
'Her heart.'
Link sunk down to his knees beside the bed. There was no way now of getting rid of it. In her head, there might have been. Her heart? He'd have to figure it out, but it could easily go wrong or be impossible. The way it ran to absorb itself somewhere else, it wasn't supposed to go there. It was supposed to be her head, her mind, and the rest of her memories most likely.
How would it hurt her now? Could it make her someone else? Change her character, her soul?
Could it make her hate him indefinitely?
