❝SO, WILL YOU USE YOUR KAIJU POWERS TO PASS THE EXAM?❞

I asked in curiosity, and he looked at me as if i was a genius.

“Should I?” He questioned, looking at me with a serious expression.

“If i consider your age, maybe. ” I shrugged, grinning.

A hand grabbed his shoulders, “Don’t.You.Dare.” Reno’s terrifying face filled our eyes.

“I w-won’t! Don’t worry!” Kafka-san raised both of his hands in defeat, feeling frightened.

“Jeez, cut the old geezer some slack!” I laughed, jumping onto Reno’s back once we got out of the car.

It seems like he doesn’t plan to push me away anymore since he knows it’s futile.

“If you’re gonna have me piggy back you, at least do it properly.” He sighed, shifting my body properly.

“Oh wow, thanks!” I wrapped my hands along his neck, beaming at him tbrough his shoulders.

“It’s a good thing you’re not heavy.” He mumbled, looking tired as ever since he had to deal with me and Kafka-san altogether..

“Still, i have a bad feeling about this exam. Not because i feel like Kafka-san won’t pass, but just because. . . nevermind, must be a fluke in my system.” I hummed, nuzzling my face on the crook of his neck since the sunlight was blinding me.

“But still, this was how the Tachikawa Base looked like all along.” I peered through his shoulder, observing how large the base looked like.

“I went to Kumagaya Base on a field trip once, but this one’s way bigger.” Reno commented.

“They share this area with a Self-Defense Forces garrison. When something happens, both sides work together to dispatch troops all over Western Tokyo.” Kafka-san explained, and i just hummed in response.

“If you transformed here, you’ll be dead within seconds.” Reno pointed out, and i nodded in agreement.

My ears perked up at the sound of a motorcycle bike’s engine stopping, a guy took his helmet off. Probably an aspiring officer like us.

One guy was waving the car goodbye, and another was running around, carrying his own backpack.

“No point in getting scared. Let’s go!” Kafka-san spoke, a determined smile on his lips.

“Hey, old man.” A voice not so distant from us called, but it seems like i’m the only one who heard it.

“We’re a little early, but let’s get checked in. ” Kafka-san pointed at the base, unaware of someone’s calling.

“I said, old man. ” the voice continued, growing louder.

“Senpai?” Reno seemed to have noticed and called out to Kafka-san.

“Hmm?” Kafka-san turned around, a confused expression on his face.

“Yes, you. Pay attention, old man.” A blonde girl that had her hair up in pigtails stepped forward, her hands in her hips.

A big writing of ‘Old Man?’ appeared right above Kafka-san’s head, and i reached out to slap the writings away.

“She’s taking the exam, too.” I whispered, Reno nodding in acknowledgement.

We noticed how much Kafka-san was twitching, looking pissed off at the newcomer’s comment.

“I’m not an old man! I’m still just 32!” Kafka-san yelled, looking as if he was going to squeeze the kid.

“That makes you old.” the girl commented.

“It does?!” Kafka-san asked in shock, looking over at us then at the girl, probably asking for our opinions.

“Well, it does.” Reno nodded in agreement. “100%.” I whistled, laughing slightly.

I decided to just doze off, feeling tired all of a sudden. Not paying them any attention when the company car got thrown—. . .wait, what?

“Eh?!” All three of us said in unison, eyes wide. Well, that was unexpected.

No! The company car!” Kafka-san yelled, tears welling up his eyes.

“Who the hell are you?” I asked, a grin on my face as I jumped off Reno’s back.

“Examinee Number 2016, Shinomiya Kikoru. My hobby is murdering kaiju. Remember that.” She thought she was cool when she flipped her hair. She wasn’t, at least not for me since i’ve seen cooler things.

“Anyway, old man and that lady over there. . .” Shinomiya trailed off, walking closer to Kafka-san and sniffed him, walking towards me after and doing the same.

Did you two know you smelled like kaiju?
