❝OH, THEY’RE BACK!❞
— Hakua was the first one to notice us. Most were sprawled around, unconscious due to alcohol.
She was about to say something else, but stopped when she saw our intertwined hands, sending us a teasing look.
“Oh? You chose? ” She asked, bee lining besides me and poking my cheeks.
“Stop that. ” I swatted her hand away, rolling my eyes at her.
“Everyone looks so wasted.” I scanned the room, looking at how wasted they looked except a few others.
“I know this is pretty random, but, do you remember anything from when you were 4 years old below?” Ashiri suddenly spoke in my head.
Huh? Why? I asked her, following Reno as he sat back on his previous seat beside Hoshina-san.
He was urging me to follow him, but i shook my head and went outside, saying i have to go to the bathroom, but i just need to focus on Ashiri for now.
“I dug around your memories, but i found something weird.” She informed.
Why the heck are you digging around someone’s memories? I sighed, sitting on a bench.
“Your memories from when you were 4 to 1 is blank. I mean, for humans not remembering the things that happened to you during those times should be normal, but they’re still supposed to be there. I should still be able to view them.” Ashiri’s voice sounded serious.
That’s weird. Maybe some mistake on your side? I asked.
“Impossible. I tried accessing it six times, Guinne. Yet still nothing. It was completely blank, similar to what’s inside newborn souls. Not the baby’s souls, but the souls of those who are new to this world. ” Ashiri explained.
I don’t get it. My brows furrowed.
“It’s like, your soul's n꙲o꙲t꙲ f꙲r꙲o꙲m꙲ t꙲h꙲i꙲s꙲ w꙲o꙲r꙲l꙲d꙲..” Ashiri’s words sounded muffled, which was weird since it shouldn’t sound like that since she’s speaking to me inside my head.
What did you say? I didn’t get the last part. I told her.
“But i said it clearl- !! ” Ashiri stopped speaking, and i was about to ask her what’s wrong when a cold air suddenly blew past me, sending chills down my spine.
A cold hand was placed on my left shoulder, a chilly breath fanning my ear as it began speaking. The area suddenly turned grey, i noticed how the water stopped flowing, the birds stopped flying, and the air felt colder and thicker.
“It’s too early for you to know. If you want her to survive, deity, don’t you dare bring this up again.” Her words held weight, chills running down my spine and terror washed over me.
“No matter what happens, you are Yoshioka Aguinne. Never let go of that. Not when you used everything to obtain it.” As those words left her lips, she disappeared along the cold air and the area turning back to normal.
I dropped to the ground, eyes wide and breaths ragged. It was terrifying. I didn’t see its face, and yet just her voice and presence alone terrified the shit out of me.
Moment later, footsteps echoed and i felt someone grab my face, forcing me to look up.
Tears welled up in my eyes, gazing at those beautiful purple irises washed all my worries down.
“What happened?! Okonogi-chan sensed a Kaiju right here! A Daikaiju! Maybe even higher! What was with you?! Are you okay?” He bombarded me with questions, burying my face in his chest.
“Hoshina-san. . . I’m. . . I’m scared.” I admitted, lips trembling as i grabbed his shirt, tears falling.
“It. . . it spoke to me. It said something- It said something i can’t remember clearly, but it said something! It was as if it was drilling something into me. . . it- it said to not forget- no, not let go of my identity as Yoshioka. . . Hoshina-san, what did it mean?” I looked up at him, terrified.
“Why. . . why did it say those words as if i stole this identity and it’s telling me to protect it no matter what?” I asked, voice panicked.
“It- it said i did everything to obtain this. . . what did it mean? Hoshina-san, wha- what am i going to do?” I sobbed, looking at him pleadingly.
He stared at me with wide and worried eyes, wiping my tears and burying my face into his chest, caressing my hair soothingly.
“Deep breaths, beautiful. Deep breaths.” He instructed, his voice low and comforting.
“Tell me everything properly once you’re calmed down. I’m here, the Kaiju won’t hurt you anymore. I’m here. I’m here.” He repeated, attempting to calm me down.
I heard more footsteps, probably the others, but soon halted when Hoshina-san shook his head.
“I’ll take care of her. Patrol around the area and report if you encounter the unknown Kaiju. ” They all responded with a ‘Yes!’ , leaving us two again.
“Let’s head to my house, okay? You’re shivering. We’ll talk there.” He pulled back slightly, looking at my face.
Calming down a bit, i nodded wiping my tears and attempting to stand up but failed.
“Ah, your legs gave up.” He mumbled, catching me on time and carried me properly.
He began to walk, a comfortable silence draping over the two of us. As we reached the gate, he spoke.
“I’ll keep you safe next time, i promise.” He whispered, and i held onto him, hiding my face from him.
“Mhm. . .”
