❝RENO? WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?❞

— My eyes widened when i felt someone’s hand on my back, looking up and seeing Reno kneeling in front of me.

“What are you doing here, curled up? ” He asked, looking worried.

“Don’t cry in front of him, cutie. You’ll look pathetic. ” Ashiri advised.

I looked away, biting my lower lip. “Nothing, i’m okay. ” I lied. I’m not okay.

He stayed quiet, then moved his hands to cup my cheeks, forcing me to look up at him.

Ah. He’ll see me cry.

“Don’t cry. It’s okay. ” He comforted me, hugging my body.

I buried my face on his chest, trying to stop the tears from falling. But it’s all so difficult, having someone beside me when I’m feeling down and confused feels too comforting.

It feels so foreign to me. It all feels new.

“I don’t even know why i’m crying when i’m the one who was being an ass, flirting and playing around with your feelings.” I muttered in a muffled voice, he just hummed, caressing my hair.

“I’m fine.” He assured, but i know he’s not. I know.

“You’re not. Don’t lie.” I hit his arm, dropping it right after and wrapping it around him.

“I don’t know what to do, Reno.” I admitted.

“I. . . I like you, but i like Hoshina-san, too.” I confessed, looking up at him with teary eyes and flushed cheeks.

His eyes widened at my confession, cheeks noticably reddening. He smiled at me, wiping my tears.

“I like you, too.” He leaned his forehead on mine, staring right into my eyes.

“But i’m sure the vice-captain does, too. And since you said you also like him, you should tell him. I can’t keep you all to myself when you’re still not sure about who you really like, Guinne.” He gave me a bitter smile.

“It’ll just hurt us both. It’ll break me.” He added, caressing my cheeks with his thumb.

“I badly want to tell you to just settle with me. To choose me. But i can’t cage you, Guinne. You have a heart, a heart that has its will.” He pointed at my chest.

“It’s alright to be confused. I understand that all of this is foreign to you, after all, you’ve never taken anyone seriously.” He laughed.

“But i’m also happy you’re feeling like this because of me. Because i know that you never viewed me as just a ‘toy’.” His words made tears fall from my eyes once more.

“Think it through. If it’s the vice-captain, i’ll gladly oblige to your feelings. And if it’s me, i’d welcome you with open arms.” He kissed my forehead.

“Just know i’ll always be here for you, i’ll always be waiting.” He smiled, and i nodded.

“What good deed did i do in my past life to have someone like you? ” I laughed, wiping my own tears. “Exist.” He laughed, helping me stand up.

“Thanks, Reno. Seriously.” I gave him a genuine smile, holding his hand.

His eyes widened, “You’re welcome.” He smiled.

“You know, i might just choose you if you continue being so sweet.” I joked, walking beside him.

“So you won’t if i’m not?” He asked, squeezing my hand.

“Nah, hard pass.” I rolled my eyes.

“Wow, after all the selflessness i displayed?” He feigned hurt.

“Don’t worry, for now i like you more than the vice-captain.” I winked at him.

“For now?”  He laughed, and i nodded.

For now.”
