❝OKONOGI, STATUS REPORT.❞

As Okonogi-san relayed the situation, i couldn’t help but feel anxious. Not because it was my first mission, but because it felt oddly similar to the feeling i got when those two Kaijus appeared.

There’s no way. . . No, i should be on guard. I can’t let anyone get hurt like Kikoru again. I won’t forgive them. I thought, clenching my fists at the thought.

“This operation will be designated as the Sagamihara Neutralization Operation. Best of luck to all of you. ” Mina-san saluted, to which the four of us returned with a ‘Yes’.

When we were all about to leave, i grabbed Hoshina-san’s arm anxiously, debating whether to tell him or not.

“What is it? Cold feet? ” He asked in a teasing tone, i shook my head at his playfulness.

I can’t tell him. I’ll just handle it myself. “I was just thinking about what you said earlier, vice-captain. ” I smiled.

“What about it? ” He questioned.

“I just want to say that there’s nothing to fear.” I paused, looking up at him with determined eyes.

“We can all be close with the our fellow Officers despite the risks, for i and surely Kafka-san as well, believe that having close comrades and friends is what makes us stronger. ” I stated, voice not faltering.

“And that there’s no need to worry about someone dying helplessly,” I breathed in.

“Because i swear that before they can take a single one of my friends, i’ve already wiped them out.”

“Y’all ready? It’s time to go Kaiju hunting.” Vice-captain spoke, breaking the deafening silence.

I noticed how Reno’s fists clenched and gently placed my hand on top of his, squeezing it comfortingly.

“It’ll be fine.” I gave him a reassuring smile, him nodding in response.

“Yeah.” He replied, gulping his fears down.

“Good boy.” I laughed, ruffling his white locks affectionately.

We were pulled out of our world when Kikoru suddenly screamed, me and Reno instantly noticed what was wrong.

“Vice-captain, senpai is about to throw up!” Reno exclaimed, sweating.

“I’m sorry, i was too nervous i ate too much food!” Kafka-san apologized.

“Normally, you’d get too nervous to eat!” Hoshina-san responded, clearly baffled.

“There’s seriously something wrong with you, Kafka-san.” I sighed, shaking my head.

“Open a window! Now!” Iharu yelled.

“If you throw up, i’ll kill you!” Kikoru yelled.

“What’s up with you, old dude!?” Iharu yelled again.

“Please don’t kill me.” Kafka-san pleaded.

Upon arriving to the site, we all stared in awe at the size of the Honju. A big lump of mushroom, if you ask me.

“I’ll brief you on the operation.” And the vice-captain began telling us about the plan.

I tried to stay focused, but something’s been bugging me since earlier. Othe than my own gut feeling, the Kaiju inside of me also began saying things inside my head.

“Don’t die on me, cutie. The ones who interfered with your fun during that exam whatever are here. I can sense them.” She spoke inside of head.

I knew it, but how can you talk to me like this? And who are you?

“Must you know?” She questioned.

Duh. You’re living inside of me, rent-free.

“Valid. My name is Ashiri, i’ve been wandering across the world for centuries but failed in pairing with humans. They were all too weak to handle me, you see. Both their current prowess, and potential. All were a waste.” Her voice sounded disappointed.

“However, all changed when i met you as a child. Despite your age, i was certain we would be compatible. So i did my best to look after you in the shadows, making sure you would reach adulthood without difficulties for me to pair with you.” She stated.

So you were my imaginary friend, huh?

“I suppose. I did show myself to you a couple of times when you were a toddler.” She mused.

Do you plan on taking over me completely?

“Oh, don’t fret. I have no intention of doing that.” She assured me.

“I could’ve done so earlier if i planned to. I find your little human life amusing, so i plan to see to it until the day you pass.” She admitted.

Then that’s good. Sit still inside me and don’t cause trouble.

“Oh, are we officially partners now?” She asked.

You wish.
