"don't you think that it's too early to start preparing the baby's room? we don't even know the gender yet—" sunghoon stopped mid-way through his sentence once his ears picked up some noises coming from the direction of their apartment, his thick brows furrowing bewildered as he signaled his wife to stay behind him. the voice seemed familiar to hari's ears, yet she couldn't seem to grasp who exactly it belonged to.
"and then i will tell her that— oh, they're here, i'll call you back." the source of the voice that stood right in front of their door acknowledged the couple standing before her, ending the call before turning towards them with a smile curving her lips and hari swore she almost went pale once she realized who she was. it was her mother, the same woman who kicked her out of her house right after marrying a new man when she was just sixteen.
"hari, darling, long time no see!" mrs.cha warmly freeted her daughter that seemed to be frozen like a piece of ice on her spot, sensing her husband's hand taking a hold of her own and intertwining their fingers while the woman in her early 60s attempted to hug her only to be stopped by hari's hand.
"how can you show up at my door five years after you kicked me out of your house for no reason and pretend that nothing happened?" the insincere smile didn't fall of her mother's lips and instead only got wider, fixing the pair of black, square sunglasses resting on her nose's high bridge before placing a hand on her chest and painting the familiar features with a mix of confusion and innocence.
"am i not allowed to visit my daughter and congratulate her for her marriage even if she didn't invite me to her wedding?" the pregnant girl scoffed audibly at her words as she crossed her arms over her chest, not believing that she was attempting to make her feel bad about not inviting her to her wedding when she wasn't present in most of her life.
her gut feeling was telling her that her mother wasn't simply here to congratulate her, and she also wasn't quite sure on how did she even get her address considering they have never spoken again. her mother never exactly cared about her, and something told her that there was another reason for her unexpected visit.
"you weren't invited because you didn't deserve to see me walking down the aisle." mrs.cha ignored hari's words and her gaze shifted to sunghoon instead, adjusting the navy cardigan wrapped around her body and placed a hand on his folded arm that held a few shopping bags as he glanced at the spot being touched with an intimidating gaze.
"you must be sunghoon, we didn't get the chance to introduce eachother. i'm hari's mother." the woman outstretched her hand out for a handshake to which sunghoon diverted his irises on his wife as if to ask her if it was okay for him to accept the gesture, hari hesitating for a moment before eventually nodding her head with a sigh heaving her chest as the boy returned the handshake. "i've heard a lot about you from the news. you know, you could've chosen so much better than this."
the raven noticed her soft features dropping to the ground and wrapped an arm around her waist before pulling her closer to him, flashing her a delicate smile earning a confused expression from the brunette who tilted her head slightly bewildered. "i believe i made the right choice by choosing hari, and nothing could make me change my mind." there was a minor change on the elder woman's face, the corners of her thin lips fell faintly downwards, the crescent moon shape of her eyes dropping insignificantly while confusion painted her features.
"but, you could've married the daughter of a really influential family, why pick my daughter over her?"
"well, i don't care about hari's money or work position, so to me that wasn't really important." mrs.cha cleared her throat at the clearly unexpected and definitely unwanted answer as she fixed her posture and pushed the glasses resting on her nose once again, faking a smile at them before shifting back towards hari.
"it was nice to see you again hari, and congratulations on your pregnancy. hopefully this child doesn't turn out like you." with that, the arrogant woman took her leave from there leaving the couple in a confused silence, the pregnant girl heaving out a sigh of relief once she heard the elevator doors closing shut and her posture dropped drastically as her previously tensed muscles finally relaxed.
"gosh i'm so sorry about her, i don't even know how she found out we live here, but i promise she won't bother us anymore."
guess she won't be able to keep that promise 😞
