sunghoon stormed inside the hospital's waiting room with worry written all over his face and cold sweats running down his forehead, rushing towards the only person who knew anything about his wife and that didn't seem to be doing so well herself as her broken arm was supported by an arm sling and her face covered in small wounds. "haeun, how's hari? is the baby okay—"
"patient park hari?" a nurse called out her name and sunghoon couldn't help but rush towards him with heart beating rapidly and his stomach twisted with anxiety. what if they tell him that they weren't able to save both of them or that hari didn't make it? he doesn't wanna imagine his life without one of them.
"the c-section was successful and the baby is healthy, but the patient is currently unconscious." he felt like his entire world just shattered right in front of his irises and collapsed onto his shoulders, the back of his eyes burning with tears that were threatening to run down his cheeks and blurring his vision.
sunghoon walked into the hospital room reluctantly, his ears welcomed by the beeping sound of her vital signs monitor and his eyes landed on her unconscious figure laying on the hospital bed, her body hugged by the light pink hospital gown and her face covered in wounds. he approached the bed with small, sad footsteps and it was only when he was standing in front of her senseless body that he broke into a river of tears with quiet sobs slipping past his full lips, taking her pale and cold hand in his and squeezing it tightly.
suddenly, a sound coming a few inches away from where he was standing grabbed his attention, roaming his red, puffy eyes around the room before noticing a transparent crib where a baby laid wrapped in pink blankets like a burrito with a cute little beanie keeping her head warm.
right, hari's waters also broke. with everything that happened, the fact that she gave birth completely slipped out of his mind.
the raven slowly proceeded towards the said crib and the moment his eyes laid on his newborn daughter, a smile cracked his full lips and tears of happiness began brimming in the corners of his dark eyes, carefully picking her up and gently holding her in his arms where she looked so small. god, he doesn't want to let go of her now.
the baby opened her eyes after sensing some movements and soon her gaze was met with sunghoon's full of love one, his heart melting once he noticed that her irises were just like hari's chocolate ones.
this just made him misss her even more.
hours have passed since sunghoon first arrived at the hospital, and he has been sitting beside hari's unconscious body ever since then, keeping her hand in his while constantly checking her vitals as he fought against sleep with all his might. it was currently five in the morning, and he swore he wouldn't have closed his eyes to rest until his wife woke up, even if it meant he had to remain awake the whole night.
the park glanced at the baby peacefully sleeping in her crib and smiled slightly, the weight of everything that had happened still heavy on his shoulders. despite the exhaustion that threatened to pull him under, he couldn't bring himself to rest, not when hari was still unconscious.
every now and then, he would squeeze her hand gently, as if willing her to wake up, to open her eyes and see the little miracle they had brought into the world together.
the minutes ticked by slowly, each second feeling like an eternity. the soft beeping of the machines was the only sound filling the room, a constant reminder that hari was still with him, though not in the way he desperately wanted. he rested his head on the edge of her bed, his thumb tracing circles over the back of her hand, murmuring soft words under his breath hoping that somehow she would be able to hear him.
he leaned closer to her, pressing a gentle kiss to her forehead and her skin felt warm against his lips, allowing himself to believe that maybe, just maybe, this was a sign that she was starting to come back to him.
he suddenly felt a faint squeeze around his fingers and his breath got caught in his throat, his heart beating rapidly in his chest as he looked down at her hand. it was a subtle movement, almost unnoticeable, but it was enough for tears to pool in his eyes as he analyzed her face, searching for any other sign of consciousness. "hari?"
for an instant, there was nothing. but then, her eyelids slowly fluttered open, squinting against the bright light and blinking a few times before her gaze focused on his figure. sunghoon couldn't help but let out a choked sob of relief, tears streaming down his face as he cupped her cheek with his free hand. "baby...you're awake," he whispered gently, his voice trembling with a ton of emotions as a wide, soft smile cracked his lips.
she looked at him with confusion and exhaustion clear in her angelic features, but then she managed to flash him a small, weak smile. "sunghoon," she called out for him with voice barely above a whisper, feeling his warm hand squeezing hers and interlacing their fingers to let her know that he was right there.
hari's half-lidded eyes shifted slightly behind him and the raven followed her gaze to the crib where their baby slept peacefully amongst all this chaos before her features softened and her vision was blurred with tears. "the baby...is she okay?"
hoon nodded his head reassuringly and gently tucked a strand of her silky, slightly messed up hair behind her ear, letting go of her just for an instant to reach into the crib and carefully pick up their daughter before placing her in hari's nervous arms.
she looked down at their daughter in awe while hot tears rolled down her pearl-like cheeks as she pressed a loving kiss on the baby's tiny forehead, holding her close to her chest before gazing up at her lover who was admiring the scene unfold. "she's...so beautiful." he sat beside them and wrapped his arm around her shoulders as they both gazed down at their daughter and cried together.
for the first time since the accident, he felt a sense of peace wash over him. they were together, and their baby was safe and sound in their arms. nothing else mattered.
