a gentle rain tapped against the windows that night, the soothing sound of the raindrops hitting the concrete ground creating a cozy atmosphere and setting the mood for the rest of the night. sunghoon could be found on their shared bed, the warm, fluffy blanket covering his bare chest while his laptop rested on his lap as he endlessly typed on its keyboard with brows furrowed in concentration.
"are you seriously still working at this hour?" hari's honey voice snapped sunghoon out of his trance of thoughts as he diverted his gaze from his screen to the now open door where she stood, a towel in her hands as she rubbed it through her slightly damp hair while walking towards their closet to look for an open hoodie to wear over her pajamas.
"i have to get ahead with work if i want to take paternity leave early, and i had nothing to do so i was trying to kill time." he explained without removing his eyes from the brightly illuminated screen, sensing the mattress sinking as she sat on it before scooping closer to her lover.
"by the way, are you okay after what happened today? it must've been difficult to see your mother again after so many years." sunghoon questioned as he closed his laptop and set it on the bedside table beside him, snaking an arm around her waist and pulling her closer to his warm body as hari rested her head on his solid chest. his fingers trailed over her baby bump and caressed it softly making her smile slightly, sending goosebumps down her spine, and hari snuggled further into his embrace.
"yeah, i mean, i don't even consider her my mother anymore after she disowned me for some people she knew since a month. today made me realize how much hate for her i've suppressed over the years." the boy rubbed her back in circles comfortingly while firmly pressing his full lips into a thin line at her words, trying to think of a way to comfort her while staring into empty space but his mind was simply blank.
he's never been particularly good with words whenever it came to comforting somebody, probably because he has rarely been comforted by anyone himself. his parents weren't really emotionally present in his life, simply limiting themselves to provide for his education and his needs, but they rarely tried to understand the complicated feelings sunghoon experienced throughout his life. he can't even remember when somebody from his family comforted him whenever he was feeling down.
the two sat in a comfortable silence for a while, the sound of the heavy rain soothing their minds as the girl listened to his calming heartbeat with eyelids fluttered close and an arm wrapped loosely around his torso. "hoon," she called out his name softly, his chest vibrating slightly as the boy hummed lowly signaling her he was listening. "do you think i'll be a good mother?"
"why wouldn't you be?"
the brunette hesitated for a few seconds to let her doubts slip past her lips, her mouth parting as if to say something before she took a deep breath. "i'm just.. scared to end up like my mother. i'm scared of failing terribly and end up being as terrible as her." sunghoon kissed the top of her head sweetly which had her smiling against his skin, his fingers brushing through her silky strands as he caressed her head gently and held her close.
"just the fact that you're worrying about this shows that you'll never be like her." god, pregnancy hormones must be getting to her head because hari felt herself tearing up at his words, her lips trembling lightly and curved downwards before she bursted into tears panicking him slightly.
"hey hey what's wrong?" he instantly cupped her face in his warm hands and analyzed her sad features for a moment, wiping away the crystalline tears rolling down her pearl-like cheeks with his thumbs while gazing at her with a worried expression twisting his face concerned he might've said something wrong.
"you're just— so sweet." hari explained through endless hiccups while continuing her cries, sunghoon attempting to suppress a grin but failing as he giggled at her words earning a light slap on the chest by his wife which only made him chuckle more. "sorry sorry, you're just too cute right now."
the pregnant girl sniffed and glared at him through her tears, her cheeks ablaze at the sudden compliment as she brushed away his touch. "how can you laugh at your wife crying.."
"cmon you know it was just a joke baby." he pampered her face with kisses and hugged her tightly, smiling from ear to ear with his eyes curving into crescent moons while his hand found her baby bump once again.
and that's how the two fell asleep in eachother's arms, the gentle sound of the rain cuddling their ears to sleep as they basked in eachother's warmth.
giving yall some cute moments before the drama starts 😞
