as she sat on the black, leather couch in the spacious living room of his apartment, hari could be found folding her husband's clothes and placing them inside some boxes that they would later bring to their new house now that it was ready for them to live in. it was actually supposed to be their day off today, but sunghoon had to leave because of an important emergency at the company, so she figured she might as well help him with packing all of his things out of his apartment.
yet, her activities were interrupted by the sound of the doorbell echoing through the house making her straight brows furrow in confusion since she wasn't expecting any visit, and sunghoon would surely simply use his keys if he came back, standing up from the couch and heading towards the door before opening it only for her features to drop slightly. "mom..? what are you doing here?"
mrs.cha warmly smiled and chuckled at hari's shocked reaction, taking off the square sunglasses resting on her nose's high bridge before placing them inside the bag hanging from her folded arm. "i'm just here to pay you a visit and to talk since we have so many things to catch up with." the woman made her way inside the apartment without permission by pushing her daughter to the side, glancing around the almost empty house with amazed eyes and a smirk almost threatened to curve her lips at the thought of just how rich her child's husband must be.
"who said i wanna talk to you? after all i've gone through because of you i don't really care about how your life is going." she let out a chuckle at her words while opening her bag and going through it to look for something, the pregnant woman's confusion only growing bigger once mrs.cha slid out of the purse two pictures.
"if i were you i wouldn't have such an attitude when your relationship could be on the line." the brunette's face went pale once her mother handed out the pictures to her, her muscles freezing completely as her eyes scanned the image printed before her irises. it was a picture of her with another guy in a bar, shot probably not long after she hooked up with sunghoon, and that she had honestly completely forgotten about. the other picture displayed the two of them walking to his apartment hand in hand.
"are you really sure that sunghoon is the father of your baby? you know, since he wasn't the only man you slept with, you can't be too sure about it."
hari could only stare at the pictures in front of her with wide eyes and slightly ajar lips, cold sweats damping her forehead while her heart beat rapidly inside her chest. she completely forgot about this guy and the night they spent together, since he was simply a rebound to fill the empty void in her heart. she doesn't remember if he pulled out or not because she had drunk too much to make sober decisions.
the worst part about this is that if sunghoon isn't actually the father, she completely ruined his life over something he didn't even cause.
"i would recommend taking a paternity test. that is, if he doesn't leave you before you can even bring it up." the woman in her mid fifties let out a small laugh and slid her sunglasses back on before taking her leave from there, leaving hari to drown into her own thoughts and worries.
what is she even gonna do now? how can she even bring up something like this to her husband who literally loves her and the baby with all his heart since they're his only family? she feels disgusted by herself.
"baby, why is your mother outside—" sunghoon cut himself off as soon as his tapioca pearl orbits landed on his wife's stiff figure standing near the door grasping something, slowly approaching her and scanning what on earth she was staring at so intensely only for the confusion on his features to twist into shock and sadness.
"hari, is that you in the pictures?" his honey voice snapped her out of her thoughts and she panicked as soon as she came back to reality and noticed his figure beside her, quickly attempting to hide the pictures but it was already too late as he already saw them.
hari sighed once she realized it was useless for her to hide the truth and handed out what she was holding instead, hoon analyzing what he couldn't believe what he was seeing. "that's me and another guy a few days after we hooked up, and before you can even ask, i don't know if he came inside."
he can't believe this. he feels like his entire world just shattered right in front of him without a warning, since the only thing he was sure about in his life and his only family could be a complete lie. the raven didn't detach his gaze from the painful sight in front of him to hide the tears building inside his sharp eyes and blurring his vision. "so you're saying that.. i might not be the father of our baby?"
he put his already demolished relationship with his parents on the line just to be with her, he risked everything he worked for in the past 3 years just because he married her and he wanted to take care of their child, just to find out that he might not even be the biological father? he threw his life and career in the trash to marry her only for him to not even be the father?
"yes, i'm so sorry hoon—"
"save it. your apologies won't change the baby's dna." with that, he threw the images on the small table in the living room and headed upstairs with a poker face, leaving the brunette alone to get eaten alive by her guilt.
