Clyde
"Clyde, a moment." Master Edsley called out to me before we left the meeting room to our carriage.
"Princess, is it okay if you'll go ahead? It seems Master Edsley has something to discuss." I told the Princess as we were getting ready to leave.
"Sure, I'll wait in the carriage." She said with a small smile, feeling downcast.
When Master Edsley and I were alone in the meeting room, he spoke first.
"Her mana is getting stronger everyday." He said, smiling.
"Yes Master. She is a fast learner, she was able to learn defense and attack spells in just a week."
"Indeed. She has a strong will. The only thing she lacks is.. confidence.. in herself." Master Edsley smiled as his blind eyes stared into the wall.
"How can I help her, Master? What can I do?" I queried.
"Just let her be." The master answered calmly.
"She will surely find that confidence soon.. especially if you let her see the world.. let her experience things. Don't be too overprotective of her." He added.
"She is more than capable than you think." He stated with confidence.
I lowered my eyes to the ground, guilty.
"Come here, open this box."
Master Edsley pointed his cane to a corner where a rectangular brown wooden box was sitting, covered in dust and spider webs.
I went over to open the box, and inside was a sword in a scabbard made of black leather. I picked it up with my right hand, and found it to be quite heavy, like something heavy is pulling its weight down, despite its thin and regular size.
"That belongs to the princess." Master Edsley declared.
"That's the reason why it's heavy. The sword only becomes light when it comes in contact with the rightful owner." He added, as if hearing my thoughts.
I just nodded in return.
When I went down, the princess was already seated in the carriage, her head turned towards the window. She probably must be in deep thought. I decided to set aside her sword for a while, and give it to her at the right time.

As soon as we arrived at the Asclepian Training Center, we were greeted by the black dragon and its fiery wrath.
We were just lucky that we were able to take cover just in time. Seeing the situation unfolding in front of us, the princess already took the initiative to look for the wounded and treat them. As for me and the duke's assistant, we engaged ourselves in battle.
I focused my mana and attacked Soccorian soldiers who were nearby.
The duke's assistant, who tagged along with me, also attacked using his own spells.
We were fighting with our backs to each other when he spoke in the middle of attacks.
"I believe we haven't formally introduced ourselves to each other, I'm Khalil! The duke's assistant-" He declared, at the same time ducking to avoid a sword swinging towards him.
"I know!" I shouted amidst the ongoing battle, and paused for a while resting my mana to re-charge.
"We've met at the ball!" I added, then threw an attack to the incoming Soccorians.
He paused, as if trying to remember.
"Right! I saw you in the hallway near the duke's study.. that was when I saw you! I knew that you did something fishy back then!" He argued, while we were in the middle of fighting soldiers.
