Emi's pov
I sat by the fire, looking up at the night sky wondering what was going to come next with our journey. Kagome, Shippo and Inuyasha were all asleep, I wasn't able to fall asleep very easily. Things had been very hectic with our group, I still couldn't believe just how many shards we had accumulated over the course of the few months we had been here. I heard Inuyasha move in the tree above us but I didn't think to much about it. That is until I heard him jump down from the tree, I rolled onto my side taking him off guard. "You're awake?" He asked, "Yeah... I couldn't sleep." I said, curling up in my sleeping bag. "What about you?" I asked, "Couldn't sleep either." He said, I let out a sigh and looked up at the sky. Inuyasha had gone quiet which made me wonder what he was doing, when I looked at him, he was staring at Kagome. Somehow, I had a feeling that this was related to Kikyo. After all, Kaede did say that she looks a lot like her. Kagome woke up and noticed Inuyasha staring at her, she yells loudly and smacked him making me laugh. Shippo woke up for a brief moment and looked around, when he saw that it was just Inuyasha and Kagome making noise, he went back to sleep. Kagome yawned, "Inuyasha?" She quipped, I couldn't help but chuckle at the face he was pulling. He was staring at her in complete shock, "Stop scaring me like that! I thought you were a scary demon." I laughed louder, to which Inuyasha sent me a look but I didn't care about it. Inuyasha turns his attention back onto Kagome and points to the slap mark on his face.
"Huh? Did I punch you just now? Sorry!" Kagome apologized, which only made me laugh even more. I couldn't contain my laughing which annoyed Inuyasha, who rolled his eyes at my behavior.
"Nope, not like her at all!" Inuyasha exclaimed, I stopped laughing when I heard him say that. My gut was telling me that he was referring to a certain someone, "What is?" Kagome asked, "Not one little bit!" Inuyasha continued, "What're you talking about?!" Kagome asked, Inuyasha didn't answer and looked away.
"What is it, Inuyasha?"
"Nothing!"
A gust of wind blows, making me flinch and something flies across the sky above them. I look up as my ears twitched and I got nervous, "What's that?" Inuyasha quipped, "What? A demon?" Kagome asked, she and I made eye contact and I shook my head signaling that I didn't know. My nose then caught onto a new scent and it startled me, "That smell... It smells like Blood... What the hell is going on?" I looked over at Inuyasha, who was deep in thought. Something's up and I'm going to get to the bottom of it.
The next morning, we were heading out to figure what we saw last night. I was still very concerned about the blood that I smelled, it seemed the whole situation put Inuyasha on edge. Kagome is on her bike while Shippo rode in the basket and Inuyasha leaps onto a rock in a river. "What's the matter, Inuyasha? Why the sudden urge to go back to the village?" Kagome asked, Shippo turned in the basket, he looked adorable. "I'm still sleepy!" He said, yawning. Inuyasha didn't answer Kagome's question as we reached Kaede's village, "Priestess Kaede, you mustn't move yet!" I heard someone say, "Never mind! It's not a serious wound." Kaede had a large bandage over her head, her arm in a sling and she was carrying a bow. I was shocked to see Kaede so injured, she was more careful nowadays. That's when I realized that it was Kaede's blood that we smelled last night, she must have fought off a demon.
"Lady Kaede!" Kagome called.
"You...?" She saw the four of us heading towards her.
"What happened to you?" Kagome asked, "So you're still alive." Inuyasha scoffed as he landed next to us, "Inuyasha!" I scolded, smacking his arm harshly. Kagome and I helped Kaede get up the stairs to the temple, Inuyasha followed behind. "I guess not even a flesh wound will keep you down." Inuyasha said, "So, you caught the scent of my blood on that demon." Kaede said, "Look, think of your age and take it easy!" Inuyasha scolded, I smiled to myself as I realized that Inuyasha wanted to come back to the village to check on Kaede who had been badly injured. He may not want to acknowledge or show it but he does care for Kaede. I stood in absolute shock when we saw the remains of the demon's destruction from last night.
"What's this?" I asked.
"This used to be my sister, Kikyo's gravesite." Kaede explained.
"A grave, here?"
"I was not strong enough to stop her." Kaede explained how the demon took Kikyo's remains which I found very creepy. "My sister had unusually strong powers, even for a priestess. If her ashes get into the hands of some demon, who knows for what evil purpose they will be used?" Kaede said, Inuyasha said nothing, turned around and walked away. I could tell that he wasn't too pleased with the situation, "Inuyasha!" Kagome called, "Forget it! Kikyo and I were enemies." Inuyasha snapped, stopping in his tracks. He then touched his chest, "Have you forgotten who shot an arrow into my chest?" He asked, I felt bad for him in this situation. Inuyasha shouldn't have to deal with this, to him, Kikyo suddenly betrayed him and pinned to him to the three with an arrow. There might be more to the story that we are missing, that much I know for sure. But whatever stole Kikyo's ashes, most likely will cause issues for us in the next few days. I have a bad feeling that the person who took the ashes will use it for something bad, or... Is it possible they might try to resurrect Kikyo?
Why do I get the feeling we are going to have a rough few days?
