"I'll go and try to find Mom and Dad, you two just stay here and be careful."
"What if you don't come back ever again?"
"I will, I hope. But if I don't, take Dew and get out of here as fast as you can. You two need to stay safe no matter what happens to me."
"We'll come back for you! We're not going to just run away and leave you behind! At least I won't."
"I'll come back myself, but a life saved is still a life. It won't be worth it if you two are also involved in this huge mess just for me."
"Okay, fine. If Dew comes for you without me, it's not my fault."
"Volt, you need to protect her. And yourself. Keep her asleep, I'll be back soon."
"Alright, ███████. You better not die on us."
"Hah, I obviously won't. After all, I still need to be there for Dewdrop."
"Not me?"
"Eh, depends."
The ████eon turned and dashed off after grinning at his brother for the last time.

"Dew."
An Eevee and a Jolteon trembled under a heavy rainfall, the distant roaring finally ceasing and replaced by the plattering of raindrops hitting the torn ground.
"C'mon. It's okay. Let's go. Hurry."
"How can you leave him behind?"
"Don't think about him right now. It doesn't matter. Right now, we need to be alive."
"Volt, are you seriously going to leave without trying to find him?"
"Dewdrop, I'm telling you, ███████ is dead. There's nothing I can do about it."
"Is it because of me? You saved me after it found us and you didn't have enough time to go back?"
"No, Dew, obviously not. Don't think of yourself as a burden."
"I don't. You're putting me in a position that makes me look a like a burden to you."
"What? No, I wouldn't do that!"
"Oh really? Is ███████ also going to be a burden if you had found him? Or if you even bothered to go back and check one last time? Would that be 'a waste of time'?"
"C'mon, he's our brother, you can't just say that. He told me to leave with you if he didn't come back and the thing was coming after us. He didn't want me to try and retrieve him!"
"Volt, what happened to your sense of responsibility?"
"You nearly got eaten when it came. I couldn't let both of my siblings die. A life saved is a life saved. He told me to prioritize your safety over his."
The Eevee clawed at the ground and didn't argue back. Her brother took a step back and sighed to himself, but she turned around and began shifting away.
"Wha...Dew! Where are you even going?"
"To someone that cares about their sibling. You'd sacrifice me for your own wellbeing, won't you?"
"You're wrong; I'd sacrifice myself for you! Dew, wait! DEW!"
"Volt, let me go."

"NO!" Volt sat up immediately, his head in his paws and his eyes watery. "DEW! COME BACK!"
"If you keep screaming like that in the middle of the night while sleeping, you might as well take over the full night watch instead of rotating with your sister."
"Okay, Snowbelle, I get it! I'm sorry," the Jolteon sighed rubbed the tears out before anyone could see. "Just a usual nightmare."
"About Dewdrop?" Snowbelle the Glaceon tilted her head.
"Yeah."
"Well, she surprisingly didn't hear you scream like that, so it's okay. I did think she would've laughed at you about your voice." she teased.
"Let's just forget about this..." Volt groaned and lied down again. "You better not tell Dew."
"You can't tell me what to do, or I'll kick you out and keep your sister."
"Talk about favorites." he snapped.
Snowbelle narrowed her eyes. "Dewdrop told Willow that you were always the favorite."
"Me? I thought-"
"Yeah, just you. What did you think?"
"Oh, no. Sorry. Brain lag." Volt sat up again. "Thought of something else."
"Like what?"
The Jolteon couldn't remember all of a sudden, his head ringing with fatigue.
"Night." he groaned,
"Hey! Volt, switch with me." Dewdrop suddenly trotted in, interrupting the conversation.
"Is Willow going to swap with Snowbelle?" Volt asked bitterly.
Dewdrop shook her head. "Willow wants to talk to you as well. And just in case, she just wanted  to let me know that she doesn't feel tired tonight."
"Still, it'd be better for her to have some rest, at least." Snowbelle argued.
Volt got up and smiled weakly. "If she wants to rest, she can come over and I can watch by myself. I won't run anyways."
"I still don't trust this guy." Snowbelle said, looking to her side.
"Honestly, me neither." Dewdrop agreed and lied down.
The Jolteon turned around and glared at the two. "You know I can hear you two, right?"
"That's the point." they both spat.
Volt sighed and trotted out of the room without saying anything in reply.
