"Please! You're living in a cave and we have absolutely nowhere to go!"
Willow hesitated and glanced at Snowbelle, but her gaze was as cold as her aura.
"No."
"Why!?" the older-looking Jolteon clutched the younger-looking Vaporeon's paw while shaking under the pressure of all of the rainfall. "Just until the rainfall ends, not forever!"
"Just until the rainfall ends!" the Vaporeon echoed his words.
"We have an Egg here! Unhatched! Abandoned!"
Willow nudged at Snowbelle and whispered to her. "Please, Sis. They don't seem like they have intentions of harm-"
"Find somewhere else." the Glaceon ignored their pleas. "We won't take any risks."
"OF WHAT?!"
The Vaporeon tugged the Jolteon backwards, preventing him from attacking Snowbelle head-on. "It's not worth it." she whispered quietly.
Willow wasn't sure if his eyes were teary or rain-filled, but pity filled her stomach and she held onto Snowbelle's paw with both of her own.
"C'mon, Sis, just until the rain ends." Willow pleaded.
The strangers glanced at each other in surprise, but Snowbelle remained firm. "No, Wills. They need to go."
The Vaporeon sneezed and choked on her words. "Please, madam, we'll leave right after the rain's gone! Right after!"
Snowbelle glanced to the side. "Tell me, what will happen if I let you two in and you two turn out to be Wilds that kill us?"
"We're too weak..." the Jolteon's legs were visibly shaking. "Please look. I don't want my little sister Dew to get sick or kill the new Egg. No matter what, the Egg shouldn't have to die. Or my little sister. Neither of them should die just because two Mons didn't let us in safe shelter."
Snowbelle instead trotted away while he spoke, leaving Willow with the siblings and the Egg.
"Please, miss!" the younger sister sobbed. "Just for a bit! We'll leave once we're warm and make sure the Egg's alive! We can't check pulse if it's under such heavy conditions!"
The Leafeon shook her head, devastating the two completely, but she instead moved to the side and made a gesture to let them in. The strangers' eyes widened before the Vaporeon cried more and went into the cave with the Egg.
"Thank you so much." the Jolteon bowed his head and thanked while passing Willow. "I really appreciate this. You've saved us."
"I'm sorry about my sister, she's just protective. She doesn't want to take any risks of any of us being hurt in the future." Willow nodded.
Snowbelle, who stood at the side, watched the two dry themselves up as quickly as they could and check the Egg.
"Disgusting."
The Glaceon coughed and turned away, suddenly remembering a familiar voice. The word replayed in her mind over and over and refused to leave.
"Are you going to raise it once it hatches?" Willow made conversation with the siblings, who introduced themselves as Volt the Jolteon and Dewdrop the Vaporeon.
"Probably. It's alive, and I'm grateful for that." Volt answered with a quiet voice.
It's alive, and I'm grateful for that.
"I'm grateful for you, Belle. I really am."
"Hey, Wills, can you ever imagine another universe where Mother liked me and adopted you because she wanted someone to keep me company?"
"Mhm! I can imagine a bunch of universes where Mom would care about you and show it. I still think she does, she's just-"
"No, Sis, she doesn't. She says she hates me."
"Does she?"
"Yes, Sis, she does. Please don't try to change the truth."
"I feel like I'll have to eventually, no? If she only likes me and hates you, that wouldn't be fair."
"Like what she says, life isn't fair."
"While that's true, it only depends on occasions. And this time, I'll help you make this occasion fair."
"We can't change her."
"But we can, no?"
"How?"
"If we're inspiring!"
"No."
"Wow, so enthusiastic!"
"We really can't change Mother. She says that she's only having me because she can enjoy watching me on the day I die."
"She'd die before you! Way before!"
"Whoa, you're her favorite! You can't say that!"
"It doesn't matter if she doesn't like at least one of us!"
"Really?"
"Mhm! Belle's the best sister I could ever have!"
"No, Willow's the best sister I could ever have!"
"Nuh-uh, Belle's better!"
"Nope!"
"Y'know, I'm grateful for you, Belle. I really a-"
Before Willow could finish her sentence, there was a crimson red vertical slash. Belle squeezed her eyes shut out of pure fear. After waiting for a moment, she slowly opened them, just to see Willow's body dislodged with her head.
A scream of horror left her throat as she fell backwards, and suddenly Snowbelle was falling down a dark tunnel. Brutal deaths of random Eeveelutions flashed in front of her eyes. Unfamiliar Mons that she would possibly never meet in her lifetime.
Swirls of horrifyingly bright and flashy colors blinded her eyes before she hit rock bottom and heard the tearing of flesh. Snowbelle felt the sharp ground and saw her blood be colored with the same bright colors that leaked out of her body. Tears from being at a loss from everything that just happened in a split second rolled down her body and stained the liquid.
"I'll save you next time." Snowbelle's head was bowed and her eyes were unfocused.
"Huh?" Volt and Dewdrop turned to look at the murmuring Glaceon.
"You're..." the Glaceon was at a loss for words. "Ah, I see."
"What?" Volt was still hostile after Snowbelle had turned their back on them outside.
"I see. Alright." Snowbelle disregarded the Jolteon's perplexed expression. "Be careful."
"Well, obviously!"
"Dude, Volt, calm down, she's just being nice." Dewdrop rolled her eyes at her brother.
"This....! How is that being nice?" Volt trembled, his anger overpowering his initial confusion.
"Y'know, sometimes we all need a reminder to do what's right." Snowbelle turned around and smiled at him. "I don't think you'll last long if you act like that."
"Act-...!?" Volt scoffed. "You were planning on watching the three of us die right in front of you out there!"
"No, then I wouldn't have left to let my sister give you guys permission to come in." Snowbelle was oddly calm for some reason.
"You-!"
"VOLT, SHUT UP!" Dewdrop yelled. "WHAT DO WE DO ABOUT THE EGG, HUH!?"
"Okay, geez..." Volt shot a glare at the Glaceon. "You don't gotta be so loud, and you don't gotta act all cruel for no reason at all!"
"Down to Earth." Snowbelle corrected, but Volt managed to calm down before the situation re-escalated again.
"So...the rain really doesn't seem like it's gonna end soon, eh?" Willow changed the subject with a forced smile.
"Hey!" Melody trotted over. "Whatcha thinking about, Snowbelle~?"
"What...?" Snowbelle turned around with annoyance in her tone.
"I'm just asking! You seem comfortable with some memories, no?" the Glaceon looked at her wrists just to realize that Melody already had a ribbon loosely tied around it a long time ago.
"What's up with you always trying to figure out everyone else's problems?" Snowbelle narrowed her eyes.
"Just wanna help some friends out, y'know?" Melody grinned. "See, you can talk to me about anything with anyone at anywhere!"
"Oh, really?" the Glaceon responded sarcastically. "What if I like to keep things to myself?"
"Then you do you." Melody's smile dimmed a little and she withdrew the ribbon. "Want me to get you some chips?"
"Chips? For what reason?" Snowbelle blinked in confusion.
"Ehh, I like chips." Melody trotted a few steps in the kitchen's direction before extending a ribbon and reaching for one of the cans in a cupboard. "Hmm, want one?"
"Sure, if you don't mind." the Glaceon shrugged, still wondering how Sylveons were able to control each of their ribbons like it was absolutely nothing.
Maybe this is the real definition of "light work"?
Melody used another one of her ribbons to take out a scoop of chips and gave it to Snowbelle. The Glaceon took one and started eating it quietly, while Melody tossed each chip into her mouth with a ribbon.
"Y'know, your ribbons just seem like four more paws except you don't have to use them for transporting yourself." Snowbelle commented between chips.
"Mhm!" Melody nodded. "I can grab a bunch of stuff and ambush Dew..."
"How are you always this energetic?" Snowbelle asked.
"Energy? That's different from Sylveon-...completely different." Melody cut herself off but continued right after the pause. "Most Sylveons are energetic, I'm pretty sure."
"I've never met a gloomy Sylveon." the Glaceon recalled. "Every single one that I've met are either chill, funny or energetic. None of the other ones are as energetic as you, though. It makes me a bit envious."
"Envious?" Melody laughed. "That's a pretty interesting trait to be jealous of right there!"
"Eh," Snowbelle shrugged. "Just talking to you about an odd topic."
"I don't think any topics are odd unless they're vulgar, what do you think?" Melody took out another stack from the chips can and gave it to Snowbelle.
"Agreed," the Glaceon nodded before tossing a chip into her mouth just like Melody does with a ribbon. "Hey, this is actually kinda fun!"
"Yeah, I know right?" Melody laughed.
"If I had a ribbon, I'd just use it to try stuff that I've always wanted to try!" Snowbelle tossed another chip into her mouth.
"Like what?"
Melody and Snowbelle chatted while snacking on chips that Dewdrop had bought while it was on-sale, and time seemed to fly by.
