Hanni

(One year later...)

I walked in to the church, one of Minji's hands holding mine and the other was used in aiding her in holding our almost two year old Min-Joon in her arms. He blabbered some random words as he looked around the church.

Almost two years, and there was still no sign of my mother. And I've learned to just not care about that. If she wanted to, she would've tried to at least come by once and try it out. But she didn't, she never will.

"Should we go sit with my parents?" Minji asked me as she squeezed my hand. I looked around the church and decided it was best to just stay with Minji alone.

As we were making our way to find a seat. A voice that called out for my name made us both freeze on our tracks. Minji's body tensed as she was the first one to turn around. Quickly handing me Min-Joon and moving me behind her.

"What do you want, Ms. Pham?" Minji asked and my mother let out a scoff. Clearly not happy to be talking to Minji. "Lucy, let's not cause them trouble." It was my dad. "And why do you care? I just wanted to see how my daughter was doing." My mom said, my dad looked at Minji whose boiling anger I could feel.

Minji no longer wants my mother to be part of my life, she was too late for even me myself to want her back in my life. And it's clear she hasn't changed either.

"She's doing perfectly fine, there's no need for you to talk to her. You'll only cause my wife distress." Minji said dropping the bomb on her. My mother's eyes opened wide.

I felt a tap on my shoulder and turned to see Mrs. Kim trying to hide from my mothers sight, signaling that she'd take Min-Joon, I gave her a nod handing Min-Joon to her. He doesn't need to witness my mother exploding.

Once she was gone, I turned back around and felt my anger boil at what I had witnessed. Minji held her cheek after my mom gave it a harsh slap that echoed around the church, making people look at us.

No one dares to touch my woman like that, not even my own mother.

I grabbed Minji's arm and pulled her behind me as my eyes threw daggers at my mother. "Don't you dare put your hands on her like that!" I snapped and my mother raised her eyebrows at me.

"And you still defend her? After she put you at the front doors of hell?!" My mother snapped back as she took a step closer to me. My dad was looking at Minji to make sure she didn't do anything to my mother. He knew Minji would protect me in any way if she had to. And he'd protect my mom if he had to.

"And even if I am at the front door step of hell, I'm standing there happily after I've finally been able to find the love of my life. I'm sorry mother, but this is who I married." I said and I heard my mom take a deep breath.

"You're making a mistake, you're no longer a child of god!" My mom said and I shook my head at her. It was finally the moment I stood up to her and confronted her.

"What about you? What about your mistakes? You not much less of a child of god than me. You're committing the biggest mistake ever and I hope you realize it." I spat out and my mother gave me a mocking laugh.

"You turned your back on me to be with the devil's creation, what mistake could I have done? That would be greater than yours?" My mother asked as she looked at my dad in disbelief at what I was saying.

I felt Minji's hand on my lower back, trying to calm me. "You kicked me out of the house, you made me choose between you or my own happiness! How could you still question it?!" I was loosing it.

Minji pulled me behind her again. "Mr. Pham, please get your wife out of here. I don't want to hurt you or her. Please, leave." Minji said calmly and my mother was going to be stubborn.

"Oh, shut up! May god only know what you did to my daughter to turn her like this. My daughter was perfect before you came in to her life." My mother said and Minji shook her head at her.

"You dared to call her imperfect for almost more than half of her life, you tore your own daughter apart with the pressure you put on her and the way you treated her. And I had to work my butt off on trying to put those pieces back together, not you Ms. Pham." Minji said and my jaw was on the floor. I never expected Minji to snap at my mother.

"I did my very best to keep a smile on her face after you were the one who turned her back on her. I tried to fix her the best I could, and yes you were right, she had her flaws but that's what made her perfect and you failed to see that. My love for your daughter is stronger and more powerful than you can ever imagine. And I won't hesitate on making you feel what she felt. So I suggest you turn around and leave like you already did once." Minji said

My mother was only staring at Minji in pure disbelief. "She's now happily with her family, and you're not part of that family. You have no absolute business on trying to be in her life again. You had your time to repent what you did, but you decided to stay loyal to your own beliefs and risk loosing your own daughter." Once Minji said that my mother threw her a glare Minji gladly threw back.

"Leave, this place isn't for you anymore. Everyone but you seems to be able to accept that my love with Hanni is real, and the most beautiful thing to exist in this world." Minji was right, the church has accepted my marriage with Minji and they all repented to the way they had all at least once treated Minji.

"I'm not going to let you break the woman I love apart ever again, so you better be grateful that I'm not doing the same to you." Minji said, my mother just couldn't believe it.

"As if you know my daughter and what she wants." My mom said and Minji let out a snarl. "I know her more than you ever will. I know what her passions are, I know what her dreams consist of, I know how to make her smile, and I know how to make her feel loved. You have nothing against me Ms. Pham. So please, accept that Hanni has closed her doors for you." Minji said, my mother was ready to raise her hand at Minji again but to my surprise another hand caught her arm.

"Don't ever hit my daughter again, you better be grateful that Minji is part of Hanni's life. Because by now, you wouldn't have even been able to recognize your own daughter if Minji wasn't there. You owe Minji more than you believe." Mrs. Kim said, letting go of my mother and taking a step back.

The church could only watch.

My mother started to murmur random words as she looked completely angered. "Fine! Keep her! But when she disappoints you, don't come running to me to tell me I was right." My mother said and Minji's arm snapped as she pointed at my mother.

"The only disappointment here is you, you're the one to disappoint god. And you'll never be right, Ms. Pham." Minji said. Minji looked at my father who quickly started to tug on my mother so that they could leave.

My mom was resistant about it but gave in, as she realized that I wasn't going to talk to her. That's she'd only face Minji if she stayed, and she really didn't want to deal with Minji any longer.

And I knew that this was now the true goodbye between me and my mom, I'll never see her again, but it won't be like she cares at all about that.

"Hanni, I'm sorry, I just got so angry with the way she spoke of you." Minji quickly began apologizing as soon as my mother was gone and I could only smile at her. I could feel all of my emotions everywhere but Minji was helping them to set back down.

"Thank you." I whispered and Minji brought me in to a hug as she rubbed my back. I didn't care about the people that watched us, I cried mom her shoulder like a little kid. I just couldn't hold back anymore.

"You're welcome." Her words made me feel all fuzzy inside. Minji was truly the best and my everything.

She was my savior.
