Spade had just gotten off work, and was currently playing with his lion when he felt like getting up to visit his court.
Lots of the concubines greet him happily and they were waiting to be picked, but the Dark Prince sensed a lethargic beast at the corner of the huge court, not giving him attention. He decided to walk over where his current favorite, Cheshire Cat, is pressing up against a corner defensively.
Bruises on the legs... Spade noticed.
"Kitty, you're sad..." he gently says to the trembling cat. He holds out a hand where the snakes are watching over Cheshire. "Come? Why don't we—"
Cheshire slaps it away, causing the snake tattoos to bare their fangs, so the cat hisses back.
"Hey now, that's not nice," Spade reprimands the both of them, and the giant eagle tattoo manifests on his shoulder to supervise. "Come with me Cheshire, you don't have to do anything."
Chester was still hissing the more Spade's arms approach him, but a single gentle touch of a beast handler made a cool sensation travel up his spine. The Dark Prince was able to pick him up like a child; legs secured on the sides and Spade's arms supporting his hips.
"Poor Cheshire..."
"Is he hurt?"
The girls were more concerned on why Cheshire suddenly turned aggressive against the Master, and even when he's being carried out he's scowling and angrily trying to squirm out of his arms.
But Spade merely brings him to the throne where he sits and pets a grumpy Cheshire on his lap. "You know, I always forget you're a wonderful magician who has killed a lot of men in this very room. That's how adorable you look..."
Spade was rubbing his ears and Cheshire didn't want to feel good so he pulls his head away and hissed. The snakes aren't really happy about his attitude, but Spade seemed to be okay with it.
He refuses to speak, he must be under a lot of stress, the Dark Prince thought. But he keeps on petting Cheshire, "Forgive them, they're just watching out for me. I'm blind, so they're my eyes. Unless of course, they're out of my body, in which case I have to wait until they return so I can have access to what they have seen."
Cheshire is still grumpy and he ignores the blabbering Prince. That smooth and soft volume of his voice, though...
"My first tattoo was a white snake, so they're very special to me," Spade randomly says, "I just find them fascinating. No surface could stop them from gracefully crawling. They are beautiful creatures—well, all animals are beautiful, but I love my snakes the most."
Then control your pest noodles! Cheshire huffs, but a purr is starting to settle in his throat. Actually, he can't control it so there are some vibrations present. When the twins aren't here to entertain Spade, or spending time with the concubines, the Dark Prince tends to speak to his beasts; and Cheshire is no different.
"The first tattoo I had... well, she was very special. The tiniest little white snake that never grew up. I drew her when I was a child, and it was on my tiny noodle arms," Spade chuckles. "She would always try to prove herself to me by trying to fight her siblings, and badly fail because she was the smallest. She would retreat here... on my left chest."
Cheshire side-eyes him to peek at the empty space near his chest. Indeed, there was no tattoo.
"She wasn't good for any fighting, but... she was the best in making me feel better. All she would do is crawl and lay on my collarbone, or sleep across my nose, and it would instantly make me feel better."
