Bailey forced herself to sit in bed, wanting to be there for Kaitlyn when Jax left her this morning. She knew Kaitlyn would be devastated when she had to say goodbye to him, so she quickly dressed and brushed out her tangled hair. After getting presentable, she slipped into her pumps and dashed out of her dorm room. Outside the college campus, she flagged down a taxi, told the driver where to go, and said she was in too big of a hurry to drive on her day. He took her money, nodded, and off they went. She was worried for her sweet little innocent friend and hoped she had no thoughts of a real future with Jax.
Meanwhile, back at the hotel, Jax woke up dreading leaving Kaitlyn behind for the next six months, afraid she would be unable to handle his hectic lifestyle of coming and going all the time. He was worried she would give into her fears and decide to let him go and forget him. He was also afraid that he would mess everything up between them by being unfaithful to her, knowing there would be thousands of temptations just waiting for him to give into
Them.Jax knew fear was buried deep within everyone's mind, just waiting to take over, that he had to convince himself they were meant to be together, that nothing could stand in their way. He woke Kaitlyn with a fiery kiss. His heart skipped a beat when she smiled up at him with tenderness in her eyes.
Even though Kaitlyn smiled at Jax on the outside, she was screaming on the inside for him to stay with her. She feared he would forget about her and meet women more suited to his life. She wished she could just lay and sleep in his strong arms forever. She desperately tried to be strong for him, but she could not stop the tears that filled her eyes; they rolled down her face, landing on his arm. She tried to turn away, but he stopped her with his strength. She could see the guilt in his eyes. She knew her tears stabbed at his heart; she sighed as he brushed his lips across her cheek to kiss away her pain. She wanted to cling to him and beg him to stay, and she almost did so until she heard him speak.
"Kaitlyn, you are not alone even when I am gone. I will be with you in my mind and heart. If you have me, I will always find my way back into your arms."
Jax's words touched Kaitlyn's heart. She reluctantly got up from the bed and dressed. After sliding her clothes over her naked flesh, she turned to look into his eyes again.
"I know it isn't possible this soon, but I think I love you," she softly whispered."
She bit her lip nervously, waiting to hear the words back from him. Jax opened his mouth to reply, but the words refused to leave his lips. He closed his eyes, hating himself for being too afraid to tell her he felt he was falling in love with her too.
"I know it is early morning and not the best time to do this, but let's picnic at the beach." Jax smiled, remembering how Kaitlyn wanted to do this yesterday, but the media ruined it.
Jax knew he was not ready to say he loved her, but he could at least show her. Before leaving her, he would make this morning as romantic and loving as possible. His eyes locked with hers, hoping she would like the idea. In those eyes of hers, he saw tears of happiness.
"Well, beautiful, how about it," Jax asked again.
"Bailey has no idea who you are deep inside. She told me you were rough around the edges, yet you have been gentle with me," Kaitlyn sighed.
She wiped a tear of happiness from her cheek and stepped closer to Jax. Smiling sweetly, she ran the palm of her hand across his jaw.
"A picnic is a grand idea, a great start to our last day together."
Kaitlyn noticed the pain in Jax's eyes when she mentioned it was their last day before his tour. The sadness in those green depths tore at her heartstrings to erase this pain; she stood on her tiptoes and kissed him passionately, her hands circling his neck.
