It had been a little over two months since Kaitlyn told Bailey she was not raped and wanted her to mind her own business, and she still refused to give her any details on what truly happened between her and Jax. Bailey was beginning to wonder if Jewel may have been involved. She had not heard from her in months. She knew if Jewel did, she would hate her for causing someone as
wonderful as Kaitlyn, so much pain.
Kaitlyn seemed always to be a million miles away. When she was not deep into her studies, she was either writing her poetry or crying over the loss of Jax. It was as though she were just a shell of her former self. It was about to drive Bailey insane with worry. She wanted her friend back, the old hopeful Kaitlyn, who always smiled and laughed. This new Kaitlyn never smiled and rarely spoke to her anymore, straining their friendship. Bailey wished she would snap out of mourning the loss of the man she still obviously loved. She needed to become strong again to face her father during spring break. Bailey wished she could reach out to her and remind her of this, but how could she do it when Kaitlyn still refused to talk to her about it all?
"Damn Jax and whatever he has done to burn you so deep," Bailey said out loud while finishing up packing her bags to stay with her parents. She wanted desperately to help Kaitlyn become herself again. The problem was it seemed like she had no will left to live, like nothing else compared to her love for Jax and her pain of letting him go. She wondered if he felt as lost as Kaitlyn or had forgotten her as he usually did with women. For some strange reason, she did not believe he had; she knew he was more than likely just as destroyed.
Bailey often asked Kaitlyn, even begging her to either come with her to her parents' house or let her stay there with her. She always answered her with a flat-out no, so she finally gave up on it. She reluctantly finished packing so she could be on her way, but before walking out of the door, she gave Kaitlyn the number of her parent's home in Atlanta. "Call me if you need anything, no matter how small, Kaitlyn. I will be able to get here within two hours at the latest," Bailey reminded her.
Bailey smiled warmly at Kaitlyn, kissed her on the head, and gave her a tight hug. "I love you. Call me if you need anything," she insisted again before leaving the room. She hated leaving her here to fend for herself when her father was coming.
Bailey finally left the room, and Kaitlyn lay back on her bed and sighed, feeling bad for being such a zombie these past three months. It seemed like she had left her soul back in Atlanta with Jax when she walked out on him. It was as if nothing seemed to matter anymore. She was just so depressed that she wanted to sleep and never wake up. She knew her father would be coming soon. She decided to let her thoughts fade from her mind. She closed her eyes to drift into a deep slumber. There was a loud knock at the door when she closed them. She jumped from her bed and walked over to it, thinking it was her parents. She was surprised to find a delivery man there instead with a dozen large red roses and a card in a cold envelope in his arms.
"Kaitlyn Martin, I presume," he said.
"Yes, I am here," Kaitlyn was cut off by the delivery guy handing her the card first and then the roses. He did not wait for her to finish speaking when he turned around and walked away. She shook her head and stepped back into her dorm room. She shut the door and walked to her bed, where she laid the roses down to read the card. She opened the card to find it was not a card at all but a letter. Inside the letter was a small seashell and a guitar pick with a skull on it. Her heart thudded like thunder against her chest. Taking a deep breath, she began to read. Jax's face popped into her head.
Kaitlyn, you asked me to let you go and never look back. I am trying daily to do this for you, not because I want to but because you asked me to. It has been months, and no matter how I try, I cannot stop thinking about you. I gave in and sent this letter, wanting you to know that I will never love another the way I loved you and still love you. I know you also asked me to forget you, but I refuse to do that. So that is why I want you to have this letter. The shells and roses are to remind you of how good we are together. Please do me a favor, touch the shells, and remember how we lay on the beach and talked for hours. Touch the rose petal to your lips and remember our first kiss. Touch the letter to your heart, and never forget mine beats for you and only you. Love Jax...
