"Can I get a doctor in here? Alannah is awake!" I call out from the door, I run back to Alannah's side, taking her warm hand in mine. "Alannah, can you hear me?"
"Spence." She says, her voice is hoarse as a weak smile grows on her face. Her eyes are barely open; the drugs still in her system must be making her drowsy. But seeing those perfect blue eyes, hearing that heartwarming voice. I can't help but let a few tears of relief escape my eyes.
"That's right, I'm right here; I'm not going to leave you, I promise."
"Excuse me sir." Comes a voice from behind me, I turn to see a man standing there in a white coat. I recognize him as one of the doctors from the ward, brown hair, blue eyes, nothing special yet there's something familiar about him but I can't quite put my finger on what it is.
I let go of Alannah's hand and let the doctor check her over. "Everything seems fine, welcome back to the world Miss McKay. Another doctor will be around in a bit to make sure she's stable but it looks as if she's on the road to recovery."
"Thank you so much doctor, I'm sorry I didn't catch your name." I say as I reach a hand out to thank the doctor.
"Doctor Ryan Higgins." He says with a smile as he shakes my hand. "Look after her."Doctor Higgins says as he walks out of the room.
"I will." I call after him. He turns in the doorway, giving me another smile before looking at Alannah for a few moments, it was almost as if he was looking at someone he loved, but he was only her doctor. "Is everything alright?" I ask, slightly concerned about the way he was looking at Alannah.
His expression is like a rabbit caught in a car's headlights as he looks at me. He turns his eyes back to Alannah, "She just reminds me of my niece, I haven't seen her since she was little." Comes the Irish accent I hadn't noticed before, but then I've never really had a conversation with him before. He looks back to me and gives me a reassuring smile and nod before leaving. I have a nagging feeling that something wasn't right but I can't figure out what it is.
'That was kinda weird.' I think to myself. But the thought soon leaves my mind as I turn my attention back to Alannah who was still awake, well her eyes were open but I'm not sure she's completely coherent. "Hey beautiful, I was so worried about you; you gave us all a fright."
"The little girl."
"Shhh, don't you be worrying about that; she's completely fine, the unsub killed himself and we got her out of there. You should get some sleep, I'll go let the team know you're awake." I lean down and kiss Alannah's forehead, resting my head against hers for a few moments so I could look into those stunning blue eyes that I've missed so much.
"What is it?"
"I've just missed you so much."
"I love you."
"I love you too" I press my lips against hers, it feels like our first time all over again. The butterflies in my stomach fluttering like mad, my pulse quickening as she kisses me back. I slowly pull myself away not wanting to push her too much. "Get some sleep, I'll be back later." I squeeze her hand a little as she closes her eyes and drifts off to sleep.
I place her hand gently back onto the bed before leaving the room. I walk outside of the hospital with my phone in hand. Who should I call? Silly question really. I dial her number. "You're early; why are you early? Are you calling me with my daily secret love bird update? Because if you are then you're early."
I can't help but laugh at Garcia's response, "I know I'm early with the hospital watch." Garcia demanded I called her every day when I left the hospital and before I got back to the office so she knew how Alannah was doing.
