I finish reading the letter, what should have taken me less than a minute to read took me almost ten minutes. I had to keep stopping so I could cry, I can't hold any more tears back. I let my emotions bubble over as I sob, clutching the letter that she had wrote for me. "Spence, you alright?" JJ's voice comes from the doorway but, I don't look around, I cry more as I shake my head. "Come here." JJ runs over to me and pulls me into a somewhat comforting hug. I wrap my arms around her as I sob into her shoulder. "We will find her. You know we fight ten times harder when it's one of our own at risk."

I pull away from JJ and wipe my eyes with the sleeve of my shirt. "I know, I just can't help but think we won't find her in time."

"Hey, you can't think like that. Every single one of us have been through a tough time, and every single time we have found them. But Spencer you know her better than any of us. If we're going to find them safe and sound then we need our genius Doctor." I nod in agreement. "Good, now have you found anything out about Alannah's life with Alan?"

"Not really." I look towards a picture on Alannah's dressing table. It's a picture of them both looking happy at the university that Alannah had taught at but there was someone else in the picture, another man, but I didn't recognise him. "Remember when we met Alannah?"

"Yeah we were working the case at the University."

"Alan always wanted her to leave the BAU and go back there, why?"

"What are you thinking Spence?"

I get up and lift the picture. "It could be nothing but Alannah met Alan at that University, they're bound to have friends from that time."

"So?"

"So I can't imagine Alan having too many good natured friends, he's even disliked at the station since his brother was arrested."

"I'll have Garcia look into their class mates and anyone who Alan contacted recently. Oh Morgan might need a hand, the neighbour is really stressed about everything that happened. She saw the two of them arguing but that's all we can get out of her?" JJ says as she leaves the room with her phone in her hand.

"Wait she saw them?" I call out catching JJ's attention making her turn back.

"Yeah she did. Morgan's next door with her now." I run past JJ and down the stairs.

"Reid?" Hotch calls after me as I run past him and out the door. I run past the crowd of people that were still behind the crime scene tape as I make my way to the neighbour's house.

I run through the door, startling Morgan and the woman he was interviewing. "Reid, where the hell is the fire?"

I ignore Morgan's jokes and direct my attention to the woman. "You saw them?" She looks to Morgan, confused as to what I was asking.

"Spencer what's this about? Has something happened?" Morgan starts to get worried.

"You're Spencer? They were arguing over you." The woman says, her voice shaky.

"What do you mean?" Morgan asks.

"Well I've heard them argue before but this was different." She looks at Morgan as she talks.

"What do you mean different?" I ask.

"Well this was outside, normally they keep it behind closed doors. And it's normally more banging and smashing." She heard him beating Alannah and she never called the police. Morgan looks at me, he can obviously telling I'm holding my anger back.

"And you didn't think to call the police?" Morgan asks as he tries to find the reasons behind the woman's actions.

"Well they're young and they both have physical jobs. What with Alan being on the police force and Alannah being in the FBI, I thought they were practicing their fighting or something. They don't really scream or shout much. That's why I went out to see if everything was alright." The woman's excuses were making me even angrier.

"So you heard a load of smashing and banging and that was normal, yet shouting was out of the ordinary. You didn't think to call the police when you heard the banging and everything else?" I try to understand her reasons but even with an IQ of 187 I was struggling.

"Well I thought the banging might have been the bed, you know how young couples are." The woman laughs.

"Are you serious?" I couldn't stop the words from leaving my mouth.

"Excuse me?" The woman looks shocked.

"Reid maybe you should leave." Morgan stands up and places a hand on my chest as he starts to push me out of the room.

"No, she could have saved Alannah. That son of a bitch was next door beating her, burning her, raping her. He smashed a cup over her head, hit her head against a wall, he ordered her about like some slave, and then when Alannah wasn't here to take the abuse because she was out putting her life on the line to save others; he went off and raped and murdered innocent women that reminded him of Alannah. If she had have called the police just once she could have prevented that. Now Alannah is there pregnant with my child as that monster does God knows what to her!" I couldn't control myself. I knew I would get into trouble but I couldn't keep this in. That woman could have stopped this. "One phone call how hard would that have been?" I ask the woman, her eyes looking at me with such pain as tears begin to fill her eyes. "Just one phone call." I whimper as I let tears escape my own eyes.

"Ok kid, you need to leave." Morgan orders.

"No, I have to help." I beg.

"No Reid, this is too personal you need to leave. We'll get agents put outside your apartment to keep you safe but you need to go home." Morgan's voice is demanding as he pushes me out the door.

"You can't tell me what to do." I fight back as I push Morgan off of me.

"No but I can." I turn to see Hotch standing at the door. "Morgan is right, you can't control your emotions. You need to go home, and if you don't go, I'll get Morgan to drag you out."

I look to Morgan who just gives me a sorry look. "I can't just leave her, I love her, I promised I would protect her and the baby. I'm not even a father yet and I've failed them." I take a step back colliding with the wall, although it was something to support me as I cried tears that I didn't know I had left.

"Err, excuse me, sorry but are you sure the baby is yours?" The woman comes into the hall as she asks the question.

I don't answer, I can't; Instead I simply nod as more tears fall down my cheeks. "Why do you ask?" Hotch asks the question that I wanted to ask but couldn't muster the voice I needed.

"It's just, well Alannah told Alan that you and her only slept together once, a few days before he... Before he forced himself onto her. She said that there was a possibility that the baby was his." I look at the woman, confused by the words.

"Is that possible Reid?" Hotch looks at me as they wait for an answer.

I clear my throat as I stand up and think. "I need to see the photos that Garcia has." I don't waste any time before leaving the house although I do make out Hotch telling Morgan to go with me. I jump into one of the SUV's and just about notice Morgan getting into the car beside me. I was too busy thinking about what she was playing at to even register that Morgan was my passenger as I speed away from the crime scene and back to the office to figure this out once and for all.
