29. Kaleidoscope

  "SHE'S WHAT?" Adam shouts.

  "Be quiet," Ellie hushes, grabbing his arm and pulling him into the dining room. "It hasn't been announced yet but I'm telling you first to control your breakdown. She's gonna be at the party next week and I-"

  "If she's going, I'm not gonna be there." He laughs.

  "Adam," Ellie complains, tossing her head back before looking back at him. "Don't make it a big deal, please. A lot of people are expecting to meet you just...play nice. If you don't go near her, she won't go near you."

  "That bitch is flighty, you know that? What someone does once, they'll do it again. Lucifer got to swoop in and be the hero to take her from me but when she leaves him it's like 'Poor guy! He's so depressed!' as if he's the only person to ever have someone leave. I've never seen someone whose wife leaves them and they think they're fucking God." He rants.

  "Woah. I feel like you have a lot of built-up stuff going on. Just...okay, take the day off. Go make friends go exploring, I don't care. But you're gonna come back with a better attitude." Ellie holds onto his shoulders to gently push him out of the room.

  "Can I-"

  "Do whatever you want as long as it's not illegal and I won't find out about it." Ellie nods before successfully pushing him out the door.

  She shuts it and walks over to take a seat at the table. This week has been very stressful for Ellie and she's starting to feel it more. Planning this party is enough to make her crack by itself but now she's been assigned to work with Adam more and personally tutor him in a way. She's also been taking care of everyone else during this whole Lilith situation which they've been trying to keep under wraps.

  Lilith has been stuck in her room for most of the time as they wait to tell everyone. At least Ellie doesn't have to take any more of her dumb comments that she tries to be the bigger person about. Ellie looks at the clock and realizes hasn't slept in almost forty hours. During the night time, she's been putting invitations in envelopes, writing small personal messages, putting on stamps, writing addresses, and then sending them off in batches.

  They've all been sent now and soon, she's gonna start receiving back the RSVP cards. That's only more work to do. She doesn't usually miss Heaven much but being alone in a room with nothing to do and no one to talk to is looking real nice lately.  She crosses her arms as she stands back up before opening a portal to her boyfriend's house. It's immediately a lot quieter when she steps in and it's nice.

  "Hey there, pretty lady." His voice comes from behind her. He's lying calmly on the couch with his feet up and a book in his hands.

  "You look so comfortable right now, I'm gonna cry. Don't look at me, I have stuff to do and I'm gonna wanna lay down." She jokes and he notices the bags under her eyes.

  "I'm looking at you. I'm pulling you in with my eyes, come here." He chuckles, putting his book to the side and opening his arms.

  "No, really, I should go start decorating stuff and-"

  "Ellie," He leans his head back for a moment before looking back at her. "That can wait. I know you don't want to do everything last minute but we have time. I will help you with anything you need for the rest of the week if you just come lay with me."

  She sighs with a small smile before nodding in agreement. He scoots over to the side to give her more room as she puts her knee on the couch before sliding beside him. He puts his arm around her and she immediately gets comfortable with her arms around him and her head on his chest.
