I sit down on the bench rocking Calla softly, looking off thinking. Until Amy comes running out.
"Mommy!" She grins sitting down beside me.
"Shh. Callas sleeping" I whisper but that turned out to be a lie when Calla says her second word.
"Amy"
Both Amy and I look down at Calla who's smiling her toothless smile.
"She said my name!" Amy grins giving me and Calla a soft hug.
"She sure did" I smile hugging back with one arm. Then Kenric comes out.
"The movie is about to start" he says coming over. "Why every hugging?.."
"Calla said another word" I tell him.
Then Calla speaks again. "Mama, Amy, Keenic"
"Did she just try to say my name?" Kenric asks.
"I think so" I look up. "The sun's about to set, come on"
"Ok" Amy takes my hand and also takes Kenric's hand as we walk to the hill and sit down.
"Look" I point up at the sunset. The pink, oranges, yellows and reds all mix together making a beautiful scene.
"It's pretty" Kenric says.
"It is" I smile looking at my kids.
"How does it work?" Amy asks.
"Um.. I'll get back to you on that" I tell her.
"Oh ok" She says. "Can I hold Calla?"
"Sure sit down cross legged" she does as I say. "Now put your arms out and I'll put her in your lap."
"Ok"
I slowly put Calla in Amy's lap. Calla looks up at her. "Amy"
"She said my name again" Amy beams. "I think she likes me"
"Of course she likes you!" I tell her.
Kenric scoots closer resting his head on my shoulder. I wrap my arm around him in a gentle hug.
"I love you mom" he whispers
"I love you too" I tell him.
"Can I move closer to you guys?" Amy asks.
"Of course" I take Calla from her as she repositions herself then I give her back to Amy.
"There you guys are!" A voice from behind me says we turn to see Keefe there with his signature smile.
"Oh yeah! I forgot there was a movie!" I whisper-yell.
"Ya are you guys coming?" He asks.
I look at the kids who shake their heads. "I think we're going to stay here"
"Then I'll join you." Keefe sits down beside his daughters.
I smile at my small family. Keefe picks up Amy and Calla and place them on his lap making a small tower. Keefe, Amy, Calla.
I laugh as Amy squeals.
"I can't wait till Calla is older" she says.
"Whys that?" I ask.
"Then I can play with her" she grins. "Oh! Daddy! Calla said my name! And Kenric's!"
As if on que Calla once again repeats the same words adding another one" Mama, Amy, Keenic, Dada"
Keefe grins in delight. The steals Calla off of Amy's lap and gives her a weak hug.
"Hey!" Amy pouts. "You stole Calla from me!"
"Ok I'm sorry." He gives Calla back to her.
"Thank you and I forgive you" she smiles.
"That's good" Keefe gives her a kiss on the top of her head.
"Mom" Kenric says.
"Yeah?" I ask.
"How come your nervous right now?"
"What?" I ask.
"I'm holding your hand and your feeling nervous. Why?"
"That's a good question" I respond.
"Oh." He leans his head on my shoulder again. "I love you."
I smile blinking back the tears. "I love you too"
"I love you too mommy!" Amy adds.
"I love you too"
"I love you Sophie!" Keefe grins.
"I love you too Keefe." Then add "I love you too Calla"
