BRAIN WORMS

The sand is hot.

My vision is blurred.

I feel as if I am fighting my muscles to cooperate.

I roll around in the sand for a moment before getting my barrings.

My legs stumble around Geonosis. I don't even know where I am. How close am I to the nearest Republic outpost? Does anyone even know where I am?

Does anyone even know I'm missing?

I clutch my head. A massive headache has taken over. This time, it was not a result of a gaping head wound.

Even though I cannot feel the creature in my head, I know it's there. What I don't know is how much time I have. Dooku already admitted he didn't either. There was no telling how many minutes I had until the toxin took hold.

Does the worm stay during that entire time?

I don't know. I just don't know.

My feet stumble across the sand while I try to keep my footing. I need to find them. I need to find the Republic.

I need to find Obi-Wan. I need to find my brother.

My brother.

My pain, it should act as a beacon.

Anakin should find me. Anakin will find me.

My fingers dig into my scalp, hoping to reduce the pain. It doesn't. The headache continues to increase in agony.

I hear something in the distance. A speeder of some sort? No, a couple of speeders.

Clone troopers and Jedi are sprinting toward me. Miraculously, they tracked me in the desert.

They found me.

"Serenity!" Obi-Wan yells at me. My name bounced around my skull.

I step in their direction. Only I can barely stand anymore, my stumbling intensifying when I try to walk toward them. Everything hurts.

"What happened?" Anakin begs, almost to me.

"Something's wrong," I tell them. Slowly, too slowly, I look at them. Then my legs give out.

I faintly see Obi-Wan barely make it to me in time, catching me at the last second. He supports me upright before Anakin arrives.

"Sere, what happened to you? Do you have any idea how long we've been looking for you?" Anakin begs for answers, grimacing at my bloody forehead. "You've been gone for hours."
