"I believe you weren't the one who pushed her, Kak." The voice that just entered my ears collided with the crisp sound of chips being fed into the owner of the voice.
I laughed. "Yeah, thanks for trusting me. It's better if you eat first; don't talk. If Tante Mara finds out, she will be angry." I wiped Agni's mouth, which was filled with chip crumbs, at a glance.
She nodded before rolling up the plastic snack she was eating. "I'm annoyed with Mas Jendra. Why did he look like he didn't believe it when you said you didn't push that bitch?"
Though I laughed over Agni's words, there was pain in my chest when she said that. That was definitely what was on my mind since the incident happened.
"Jendra really likes to be stupid sometimes." Giandra answered carelessly while directing Bria, who turned the steering wheel slowly before entering one of the well-known private hospitals in North Jakarta. She turned to me a moment after parking her car. "I don't know why you have to visit that crazy woman." She crossed his arms.
I sighed softly while looking at the bouquet of flowers in my lap. "It's precisely because I didn't do anything wrong, right? That's why I had to come visit her."
Agni nodded. "I'm just disappointed that Mas Jendra was acting like that."
I stroked her hair gently. "I'm disappointed too."
A row of inpatient room doors greeted us as we walked down the hospital hallway to look for Rara's room.
I was grateful that I have good friends like Giandra, Agni, and Bria. Sometimes, as only children, Pra and I—yeah, Pra is also an only child—we usually like to wonder what it would be like if we had siblings. Although it was clear that our parents never failed to give us a lot of love.
"This looks like her room." Bria pointed to a white sliding door with a number plate on the side.
"Let me go by myself." I tightened my hand on the bouquet of flowers in my arms.
"But Ra — ,"
I shook my head at Giandra. "You guys just wait here."
My three friends looked worried but had no choice but to do what I said.
I slowly opened the bedroom door and saw Rara sitting on the bed.
"Hey,"
She looked at me with a cold gaze.
"Are you alright?"
"Why did you come here?"
I put the bouquet of flowers I brought on the nightstand before sitting in the chair next to the bed.
"Precisely because I didn't do anything wrong, right? That's why I came to visit you."
She scoffed.
"May I know why you are obsessed with Jendra?"
She looked at me in disbelief.
"Me? Obsessed? I simply like him because I know he likes me too!"
I furrowed my brows. "How?" My question just came out of my mouth because I knew that when Rara fell in love with Jendra while they were at college, Jendra had come to my parents to propose to me. So, I wondered where her crazy thoughts came from.
"How?" She brushed his hair roughly. "No matter how people show their strength, they've all got fault lines. They all crumble under pressure. Just like me. I can grow in the cracks. But it can never flourish. That's what I believed until Jendra came into my life. He said that I could also achieve my dreams despite the fact that my family never supported me."
